A "muslim" is one who submits to the will of GOD.

Only Europeon culture could fashion such a filthy religion that practices ritualistic pedophilia...

.Organized religion is for the white, the weak, and the woeful.

this is a part of the problem...every culture has positive and negative contributions to humanity. i'm no fan of catholicism, as i said, catholicism is not synonymous with christianity (certainly not black christianity) and this was not my original point or intention, but for people of color to adopt ethnocentric ideologies against other cultures is no different than other cultures adopting ethnocentric ideologies against people of color

Culture & spirituality should coincide, all cultures worship dieties in the images of themselves Afrikan/Black people are the only group that worships a white-Jesus, or a pale-Arab instead of the Gods and anscestors that their forefathers did.

Taoism, Buddhism and even Hiduism are fruitful, but organized islam and Xritianity are like political tools for whites and A-rabs; a bunch of warmongering psycho's and con-men.

Afrikan people should embrace traditional Afrikan spirituality concepts and leave the organized religion for the fakers, frauds, and phonies.

any belief system can be manipulated or misinterpreted by people.

also, for the purpose of playing 'devil's advocate', vincent khapoya wrote in the african experience,

"...the introduction of islam and christianity to african people greatly simplified african spirituality and created a new basis for africans with diverse backgrounds to come together. ...the role of ancestral spirits was extremely significant and called for continual, elaborate rituals to pacify or supplicate them. this kind of spiritual heritage, while satisfying emotionally and spiritually, did, in many ways, stunt the development of rational thought and science."

william kamkwamba, who as a teen in malawi educated himself and built a windmill to provide his family with electricity also writes in his book, the boy who harnessed the wind, about the traditional african belief system's effect of hindering progress in science.

btw, i'm not saying that africans should not practice traditional african sprituality

Chinua Achebe wrote on the Afrikan experience "Things fall Apart...."

The introduction of Xristianity & Islam was the precursor that led to the A-rab and Transatlantic slave trades that took 126 million Afrikans from their homeland.

There is nothing rational about "eating the body of Xrist & drinking the blood of Xrist" in Xristian ritual.
There is nothing remotely scientific about the requirement of walking around a Black Stone in the Kaabaa.

I dont see a connection between organized religion and cultural advancement in science.
Just because a missionary helps build a water-well we are supposed to give his religion the credit?

William kamkwamba's lack of education is what hindered his progression in science not his indigenous spirituality.

things fall apart is a great book, and to his credit, khapoya spends the entirety of the chapter previous to the quote i posted dismantling colonialism. as i said i was assuming an opposite position for the sake of argument. however, i think you missed my point. i started this thread because i agree with you on what the spread of european colonialism under the guise of christianity and conquest under the guise of islam did in africa, i think it's hypocritical to tell black people that they are wrong for being christians because of slavery, but to give islam a pass. i think khapoya's point is not to validate christianity or islam, but rather to be critical of tradition.

and kamkwamba was not hindered in progressing in science, the community around him was. kamkwamba's story is inspiring.

Here is the real deal.

European Christians, Arabs, Jews, and Africans were all involved in the slave trade.

For people to make this into a Muslim/Christian debate is erroneous and short sighted historically. The Ashanti were neither Muslim or Christian, they just wanted to maintain autonomy over their region and in a fight with neighboring groups assisted the British in our enslavement. They were not the only ones, but they were prominent.

Traditional Africa was conquered. This is a cold hard fact. There was a world that was evolving outside of Africa in Asia and Europe and they did not make the necessary adjustments to keep pace with those changes and were overrun by European and Asian invaders.

We need to take the best of what traditional African systems have to offer and discard that which is not beneficial. The Black Man is not limited to Africa, we brought the world out of darkness, so it is only right that we seek knowledge and wisdom all over this Earth to advance ourselves, since they used what we had and built upon it.

i think we both know what the term means, but at the same time, it's commonly used to refer to practitioners of Islam. and we both know that the Pope is not, in fact, considered to be a practicing Muslim in that regard.

of course, we also know that there have been Muslim pedophiles, but i suppose we're not really worrying about facts THAT much here

Truth spoken.

I have had the pleasure of being around Muslims, Jews, Christians, as well as practioners of Voudon, it is my personal experience that those who practiced Islam and the Afrikan systems seemed to be more devout and vibrating at a higher freqeuncy. When we banter in barbershops in my own community we laugh about how ineffectual and impotent the Black church is compared to the muslim community that has its own commerce, schools, and study-groups.

I agree that we shouldnt be limited to Afrika...the world is ours Afrika is simply our throne.
