If you were no older than 10 years old during hip hop's peak artistic years where the most growth took place i'm not going to respect your opinion on the mecca of hip hop. Atlanta has maybe 10 hip hop artists that help set the culture. I can name 10 from Brooklyn alone.

NYC is the mecca of hip hop, they Eddie Kane Jr status right now, but you can't take what they've done away from them. Has the south essentially owned hip hop for the past 13 years or so? Absolutely. But when you think "I want to go to the mecca of hip hop" No sane person of much intelligence tells you to start with Atlanta.

There has been more hip hop history made in those 5 boroughs than the entire southern region combined.

This. ATL would be more like the Medina, 2nd holiest city and the burial place of Muhammed, PBUH (no shots intended). ATL's influence in the past 10 years minus all the ringtone Laffy Taffy shit is undeniable. T.I., Gucci, Jeezy, Future, Rocko, Tit, and them have all put out quality music, and that's just the top-mid tier. NYC will always be the Mecca, so we can acknowledge the real shit, word to Desiigner.
