The forum operates on UTC (GMT), but auto adjusts itself to the timezone of each person viewing it.

My job is to provide a service to Grouchy. Currently, that service is to keep these forums online and unhacked. Anything else I do on top of that is either:

a) Something he directly asks me for

b) Something I decide to do on my own time because I want to

So yeah, I'm not "feeling" the quotes idea because I don't think its intelligent and I don't want to spend my time on something I don't believe is good. I wrote the fold-up quotes feature because it was a really good idea. I don't feel the same about your weird suggestion.

Quote trees are useful because they show who is responding to who. They provide context. Your method makes that context harder to read, and requires a ton of extra processing to achieve. So unless for some reason Grouchy tells me it is a vital feature, I'm gunna have to say no.

The quote system you knock is how this site has been. No one EVER complained about it. Listen to all the ones that are now. Just saying. Guess its too tough a task.

The way the previous quote system worked is that it didnt allow quote nesting. You could only quote new text that a person wrote. This system provides context (which auto hides itself unless you need it). You get more information, optionally. It works fine.
