Objectively speaking......I can't hate on her nor the image she gave young black women. Any of our young sistas can look at her & know that at the very least, it is possible.

Personally speaking......I feel that she goes out of her way at times to separate herself from blacks (and no...her supporting President Obama's campaign don't erase 20 years of that shit)

How exactly does she do this?

and how does she do that when everything she does has black written all over it.

* Shunning Hip Hop artists
* Tyler Perry & Bashing Black Men on Film
* Mike Vick
* The lack of pigmentation in her target demographic
* The topics (or lack thereof) on her show pertaining to us

Celebrate her for her accomplishments but, to say she's stuck up for us is an overstatement.

she doesnt shun hip hop artists, she has had hip hop artists on her show and lots of other black musical artists. oprah is over 50 not 20 yrs old. oprah caters to a mature audience... not teeny boppers

what about tyler perry and how does she bash men on film when she is not a film maker?

and what about Michael VicK?

she does not target any specific audience. her stuff is universal. those are the people who stand up in line to get in. she doesnt hand pick her audience. she doesnt control that.

her topics are universal, that's why she is successful.

again she caters to a mature crowd, if you are an ignorant nigga, then yeah, she aint for you

She'll have Jay-Z on her show, but no Ice Cube

plus, her representation of relationships by being single..................how you got married chicks taking relationship advice from Oprah when she a 50yr old with a boyfriend? FOH

smh@ thinking Oprah needs to be 106 and Park to be black. y'all some dumb niggas on the real. she is a grown ass woman. Oprah doesnt give relationship advice or any advice at all. she has experts on her show for that. .

y'all clearly have no idea what you are talking about. just a bunch of haters. running your yap.

oprah is an interviewer who interviews people and they share their stories. she gives them a platform....not herself

oprah promotes others...never herself

Oprah's not above criticism.

She's a human...like us. She's going to die one day...like us. She'll eventually be lost in history...like us. She got her fame from the overwhelming support of regular people...like us. Please go to another thread if you're going to be emotional about it & act as if I'm too lowly of a person to give an opinion.

Stepandfetchman graham got dough but not dough like oprah and they been together for 20 somethin years

She also has Certified Dr's and pyschics give relationship advice I dont watch her show but I heard this from close and personal friends

the same reason any of her fans would want to get married

same reason mofos would have an issue with voting for a president that was a bachelor

I didn't know you was such a big fan of hers bruh

I hope it doesn't disappoint you that she could really give a shit about a black man

clearly you dont watch her show. so how come black women and men watch her show? as I said her show is not about color, it's a maturity level thing.

what advice is she not following?. just because she is not married. not one relationship expert advises that a person should get mariried

And just so you know...

She did shun hip hop artists, she played Ludacris, played Ice Cube, didn't invite Jay-Z onto her show initially. These dudes are multi millionaires; success stories; extremely successful minorities who picked themselves out the ghetto & help keep an entire industry rolling and thousands of folk employed and they gotta act like they ashamed around Oprah. But she lets Adam Lambert on her couch.

She cosigned Tyler Perry and the 400 pound caricature that was "Precious".

Her target audience is middle aged white women, her audience is a sea of ivory flesh & her topics on the show usually have shit to do with us.

Do I hate the woman...No. Do I appreciate the woman...Yes. Do I think she's a good role model for young, african american women...Yes.

But, I just get sick of black bourgeois & their need to be "universal", that's just a code word for dilution. I just want to see one dark coffee muthafucka on TV who's educated and doesn't feel the need to tone himself or his image down to be safe to the majority.

didnt say she was above criticism, but to criticize you have to have knowledge about her, and you dont. because the shit you saying aint even applicable nor makes sense.. you're just yapping for yapping sake

marriage is a personal choice.. she aint the only unmarried black chick. y'all dudes just mad that her unmarried status is by her choice and not because some black guy rejected her.

y'all dudes are so threatened by a totally self defined black woman it is a shame.

she has a black man for 20yrs and you say she dont give a fuck about black men.?.. you sound stupid. if oprah was a black male billionare she would be with some white woman.

haters

she said she doesnt like his music.. she is a 50yr old woman...why would she like his music? they are not multi millionares success stories..sorry. the average rapper aint balling like you think. she does not need to have every black person in the entertainment industry on her show to prove she is black. that's just stupid. who said ludacris was from the ghetto? smh. get over it. oprah aint arssenio hall. she is oprah. you want hip hop. go to BET

She cosigned Tyler Perry and the 400 pound caricature that was "Precious".
Precious was not a TP caricature... get your facts straights Precious is a real life person that had a book written about her called PUSH..stupid

Her target audience is middle aged white women, her audience is a sea of ivory flesh & her topics on the show usually have shit to do with us.

Yea....that was emotional.

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5534557

"Recently another episode of black-on-black player-hating came to light when rapper/actor Ludacris talked about his appearance on Oprah as a cast member of the Academy Award-winning film Crash in the May issue of GQ Magazine. Luda alleges that his remarks on the show were edited, while Oprah's critical comments about hip-hop were presented in full.

Luda goes on to say that after the taping of the show, Oprah pulled him aside and told him that she didn't book rappers because she felt like she would be empowering them. Later, 50 Cent, in an interview with the Associated Press, stated that he could, quote, "care less about Oprah or her show," and chided the talk show host for catering to an audience of, quote, "older white women.”

Done had child molestors, rapists, gays, former strung out actors/musicians on her show. Does that mean she's empowering them?

this what I'm confused by

can someone find me where Oprah has ever tried to act like she was pro black

from very early in her career she targeted an audience of predominantly white women

sooooooooo

like what are your expectations of her and where did you get those expectations from?

because from day 1 Oprah has basically said "fuck errbody, I do what i pleases"

and I'm still confused as to what her big accomplishment is besides making huge amounts of cash
