I can't cosign the bolded because Jay Z did real well commercially in 2009, and if he's on schedule he'll be coming back for 2011. Same goes for EM, who was the most successful rapper of 09-10.

However, skill wise, they have all dropped quit a bit. Same for all of the others. The other have fell commercially as well, although sonically Kanye is still top notch.

You being in demand don't mean your music is hot.......is bieber music hot? Nicki album hot? How is that young money album or soulja boy album, is dem bullshits hot?....and all the artists listed are in demand and can sellout a concert....they all can sellout concerts or w/e but musically there hype around there name is just that, hype.........and luda did fall off for who ever bought dat up, early career luda)))) luda now=fell off.....

good thread and I have to say nas...its amazing how he has fallen off and refused to get back in line..its like hes not listening. take rae for example, he was falling off for years and he finally listened to his fans and now he is on fire...why wont nas do the same??

No disrespect but that doesn't make any sense. I agree with u that these guys haven't made anything that is just like WOW lately BUT if they was to come into town they are gonna sell out the city. I would think if you talkin fell off you talk more to rappers that music is not selling, can't sell out concerts, or doing whatever they do to TRY to stay in the limelight.

I mean the same can be said about any artist right now who came to your city. If luda came to town, I'm not doubting he'll sell out. But he's dropped two albums in two years, and neither one went platnium. Compare that to when he first dropped and every single for like 4 years after that was a instant hit, and every album since his first one was multiplatnium. I just saw a sold out Slick Rick and Clipse show a few months back out here in Seattle, which was dope. But I know if Slick Rick or The Clipse dropped an album right now, it's not flying off the shelves or nothing.

Well with that argument, that's proof that there is a blurry line between falling off and remaining relevant. I'm using Luda as an example since he's an easy target for this thread. His last two albums didn't sell, but the content was what someone would expect from Luda. He had good beats, and his lyrics like I said was expected, but if this was 6 or 7 years ago when he was hot, they would be considered classic albums from luda. I don't an artist can ever meet or beat the impact they had with their first album, and with hip hop once you blow up then only way to go is down. To me it seems like we as fans give these rappers an expiration date or something. After 10 years you're done. I doubt if hip hop will ever see a Rolling Stones or U2 on a hip hop level, because old is a bad thing with our fans.

good point homie and i'll counter you with this..im talking about feelings. the closest example i can find is rae..i copped every rae album the day they came out. and all have grown on me to varying degrees. but when i copped cuban linx 2, i had that same feeling as when i heard the first joint..like ohh shit...thats that shit...im not sayin 2 is as good as 1, but u know in your heart if dudes still bang like they used to...sure the impact might not be that same, but shit still give u that feeling..i think kanye might be a good example also, and i am not the worlds biggest ye fan trust me..

...Thanks homie…and you said Nas?…I am a fan of Nas and I agree…I always wished he was a more active artist…like dropping consistent mixtapes, singles, features etc…he treated his career like…oh I’ll drop a album here and there…w.e….when if he was grinding he could of done a ton more for his legacy…even thou he is a legend and always will be…if you get what I’m saying…

...I agree with the feelings statement...remember how a Pac joint made you feel...a Big joint...a X joint...a Em joint...most artist just rap now of days...you may like the flow or the beat...but does it create any form of feeling...other than he killed that shit lol?

exactly, and im not even talking about a ton of mixtapes..what one thing have people been saying nas should do for years??? make an album with premier, get back on that queens bridge shit...havoc and premier are not that busy im sure, and nas has the budget, and i cant imagine def jam or any lable nas is with opposing a premier bulked produced album, even if he has to do one timbaland track or whatever to compromise....im a huge nas fan, but to this day i still walk around singin memory lane, nothing new....okay u not on that project mentality shit no more, cool, but u can splash ya shit homie..i think az is an excellent example of an artist that NEVER fell off and has matured and aged very well....

I bump Rae... and that was hands down the only real sequeal for any hip hop album!! That nigga knew he had a classic on his hands and could only name it after his first one!! But you sound like a real fan of hip hop music, niggas like you don't exist anymore. If you as an artist can't make up some dumbass dance, or have the kids wear the same shit you wear, then you're not relevant. Talent and quality of music has absolutley nothing to do with what's hot anymore.

Really confused how anyone can say Nas. Dude's last 2 albums have been money. Whether you dont think so or not I believe the majority does and by that I dont mean by record sales.

Yea Luda owns this thread. 50 and Game fell off for sure. Never thought that Jeezy was that talented to begin with and knew his career wouldnt last long. TI is still making solid music to me, hes just falling off in life.

Im at a crossroad with Jay, didnt like BP3 that much but I still think he can bring it. Em is not as dope as he was before but he still makes quality music to me.
