word. i'm like that with other genres outside of hip-hop. i've dabbled with various hip-hop and rap shit but i always come back to what i perfer

I mean obviously I lean toward my favorites that I'm really really into (Nas, Outkast, Pac, G Rap, Scarface, Rakim, Ghostface). Like I listened to Illmatic every single day at 7:30 AM for 4 straight years in high school. Some shit never goes out of rotation for me. But there's 24 hours in a day. I have plenty of time to listen to the wide variety of sub genres. And yeah, I listen to soul, funk, and jazz a lot and I need to step my game up in terms of like classic and modern rock/alternative, etc (I'm very familiar with the main legends of course).. but I'm 20 so I have a good 40-50 years to catch up lol

Yeah, back in HS I knew way more than my friends. While they were stuck to what NY's rap scene, I was listening to shit from Memphis, Atlanta, New Orleans and The Bay. I told alot people that Lil' Wayne had seroius potential, but they couldn't see it then.

Hahaha I'm not the only one who cares about it but I would say I care about it the most and have the most knowledge.. like I know all the years when albums dropped, sales, ratings, little known facts, all the lyrics, the history, etc.. I'm pretty much listening to music 24 hours a day (unless I'm in class) music is playing from somewhere. So I'm really serious about this shit. Probably too serious.

This is me too.....

If you don't have a friend that is on the IC, chances are you are more passionate about Hip-Hop. Its not everyone that signs up for a message board and comes in here to discuss as often as some of us do. I only have one friend who is close to caring about it as much as I do, but I am still ahead. At this very moment I am listening to Ready to Die, I'm 22, so a lot of the "classic" albums came out before I was truly able to absorb them well, now I go back and purchase a lot of those "old/classic" albums. I love Hip-Hop. Even when I was a kid, and my parents wouldn't allow me to listen to it, I would still sneak listens here and there and memorize as much as I could.

Yea, it's a gift and a curse though. I can't really talk hip-hop with my friends because they only skim the surface of the genre. I get annoyed when they just look at record sales or popularity; these are the same dudes who claim that Biggie and Pac are the best rappers of all time (whether they are or not is irrelevant), while they have only listened to 10 songs by each artist and zero tracks by other well respected artists.
