The man offered to give her $975 MILLION.

It's not like he cut her a check for $10 thousand and told her to go on her way.

For all practical purposes, he offered her $1 BILLION.

That's more than enough compensation for the "peace of mind" and "security" she provided him as his wife by "having his kids" and "taking care of the house" while he was away.

Too many people are taking the easy way out and hiding behind the letter of the law instead of discussing whether or not the law is even fair and equitable to begin with.

In the scenario you described, it seems like a scenario in which someone loaned somebody $10,000 in the past or was owed $10,000 for services rendered.

However, with the billionaire situation.....the major point of contention is whether or not he even owes her anything to begin with.

Unless they were 50/50 partners in his business (forget all the marriage/divorce/community property laws....this is about right or wrong)....she shouldn't be entitled to half of his fortune.

From what I recall in that thread, the laws in their state specify that if any spouse played an active role in generating money/wealth......the other spouse would be entitled to half of that money/wealth in a divorce.

Basically, this woman isn't even arguing that she should get half because she played a role in generating his fortune.

She's saying she should get half because her husband played a role in generating the wealth he accumulated.
