Are There Too Many Features In Hip Hop & Do They Make Collabs Feel Less Special?

Fuck Collabs... That shit is for the birds now...

That's what I like about guys like 50, Nas, Cole, or Kendrick... You stick to your clique or have maybe ONE rap feature on your album and just go in by yourself the rest of the time... Fuck all this kumbaya shit... Collabs today make Busta Rhymes Touch It remixes look like everyday shit now... Nothing is special about it anymore...

The Remix is dead too...

I remember the remix had a slightly diff beat with new verses but today its just the same track with french, future, drake, ross, or another member of the super friends on it

But thats a thread for another day

way too much. shit is ridiculous. nowadays the second question after "when's the album dropping" is "who's it featuring"

It might be the team's nowadays are just too weak to not feature outside artist. Is Ross the only one with a solid team ? Fuck Wayne label that shit is like all the wu affiliates combined.

There was a time when callabs were seldom and I would be so excited about different artist collaborating that I really liked anticipating they would make an interestingly dope track together. But now it's all too common place and these features are more motivated by popularity rather than coming together making something really dope for their fans.

Yes.

I got a theory that the labels encourage and maybe even force collaborations to happen to extend the popularity of other rappers as contractual favors to one another.

Collabs and remixes have always been around, but somewhere around the height of Lil Wayne's mixtape success, the industry decided to skip letting rappers put out freestyles over other people's beats and instead maximize profit and put those verses on the "official remix". Fucking DJ Khaled....

YES!

If a CD drops that I've been interested in for a while has a feature on every track I won't take a second look at it.

Big Clipse fan but I won't buy that Pusha album because of all the features.

Artists are just desperate now.

It's Khaled Khaled and William Roberts thought. Blame them. They couldn't be successful on their own so they started the we are the world BFF movement and its gotten out of control.

Hearing artists collab from different crews used to be rare, now it's pretty much the norm and it takes away the appeal of the feature. Wack artists now use it as a crutch.

i think niggas shouldnt have guest features on debut albums , only mixtapes and dj albums

At least no big names, Saigon lp would've been just fine with out that Jay verse not to mention he went harder on the original.

I can't stand when an artist drops an album and it's nothing but collaborations throughout the whole cd. I'm wondering is this a compilation album or something.
