Are kids of this generation lost when it comes to Hip Hop?

My take on it; Hip Hop isnt as enjoyable as it was 10 years ago but it's at least slightly better than where it was five years ago. Im only basing this off the energy i'm feeling from the game cause i honestly don't listen to any of these newer dudes who are always gracing the covers for freshmen 15 or whatever. Im just not into them.

I think hip hop is moving forwards in SOME aspects, but the fans have gotten worse. by worse I mean either misinformed or just willfully ignorant of the history, their way more fickle and entitled than previous generations, and have lower standards for an artist be it artistically or personally. You can be a proven fake, biter, or worse and people still eat up your BS because it sounds good. Also fans of today are quicker to mentally break-down and launch an all-out war on someone who doesn't share the same musical taste as them (usually online). Instead of a solid " I respect your opinion but I disagree", its' "leave my favorite rapper alone...and oh yeah I hope you die!!!" Ain't that serious.

While this has always existed in hip hop its was rare and we referred to those people as 'Stans'. Now Stans are common. "Arguments used to make sense when you were comparing artist of a similar caliber. Now we get flame wars started off two grossly mismatched artist. I used to think some of the stuff was trolling. but now I believe the kids of this generation really believe "flavor of the month emcee" is a more well-rounded and skilled emcee than "proven hip hop veteran whose impact is still in effect". Whats worse is they seemingly judge what music they enjoy not by any real merit but by what desired image the music represents to the listener.

If you're still cocking your head sideways wondering WTF I just said then just forget it, im not even bout to elaborate any further or argue because I cant even muster up enough damns to give when it comes to trolls at this point.

Nah, you gotta evolve with the game. I don't trip off the youngsters loving what's latest and greatest to them. People fall in love with and get caught up with the music that they liked during the prime years of their lives and what's "in" during those years. It is what it is.

I wouldn't call them lost, just evolving with the game in a time and a way that you (not you specifically) didn't.

This "generation" (whatever that means) is filled up with individuals who think differently. People who think that "those youngsters...." sound bitter. How people look at music individually is their business.

I want to say yes they are lost, simply cause they figure this is REAL evolution.

Evolving means adapt and making something better. You can't tell me what's been out for the last 2-3 years is better in overall quality than what came out in 2005, 1998, 1992, 1985...even all the way back to "Rapper's Delight".

It's normally only surface hip hop fans who feel like that, or if they do they'll have their mind changed first. A lot of kids don't listen to these artists, and I really really listen. It's like content doesn't matter at all to some people, so once that comes back then it won't seem like fans are so out there.

One thing people always fail to mention is the "cool factor". What i mean is this generation of hip-hop consumers now are usually young kids and they wont care about skills or nothing, its mostly about being hip and cool. Now what drives an artist to become cool to younger kids? Just like in High Schoo, popularity. So therefor popularity plays a part in what theyll buy and support. Its not that they support Wayne cuz he "appeals" to them, if that was the case they woulda bought more of his previous albums. Once he got hot and popular tho they started to cop his joints and claim he was the best rapper alive out of nowhere because once your popular its almost synanamous with being cool/hip/in.

Kids look at rappers like super heroes or idols they wanna follow. Not just rappers but athlethes etc. So once they see Drake (for instance) wearing and rapping about a clothing brand theyll go and buy it, why? Because if Drake is widely popular hes somewhat considered "cool" to the young audience and since kids wanna follow anything thats cool theyll jump on it and buy w/e Drake is rapping about or wearing.

It's so amazing how everyone forgets how shitty the music industry was from 2007-2011, where we didn't have anyone new at all and mix tape websites were still blossoming. This generation is still recovering from that over saturation of bad music. At least the kids are listening to music that doesn't have to much auto-tune... When I was in high school that's all that would be played.

Man it makes me think that hip hop is just one big ass cycle... Everything seems so cyclical when it comes to music and peoples perception.
