Always had wanted to get into this series. Just never did because I rarely owned any of the systems it was on plus when I was younger the 2D never appealed to me. I do have one for the n64 though still lol.

Well if that's the only experience you have with the series then you should definitely try Lord of Shadows 1, because it is on a whole other level from that game.

Finished Los: Mirror of Fate this week. As a fan of the original timeline I was very impressed with how they condensed a lot of the key points from it in this new timeline with this game. Definitely gonna keep an eye out for LoS 2 now.

Castlevania SOTN>>>>>

Unless the developers can manage to top SOTN while staying in the 2-D realm, not interested. GOW already done did everything the 3-D castlevania hope to accomplish in terms of gameplay. I doubt there's much to see with this new Castlevania.

And as far as action/adventure games go, I still haven't seen anything topping Bayonetta from two years ago. And if there is one i'd like to see.

You could only create so many Metroidvanias before they become stale. That's what happened by the time of the Nintendo DS. LoS was the shot in the arm the franchises needed. What it accomplished in terms of gameplay was more than any other 3D entry accomplished so far from what I hear. Playing as Dracula himself adds a whole new dynamic to playing through these games which should make LoS 2 pretty interesting.

LoS was so successful that it made them prioritize that continuity for a while and making the next few games in the series a part of it. I didn't play LoS cause I don't have a 360 or PS3 of my own and don't know anybody with the game. I will be playing the sequel because I will have a a 360 at home this fall and found the Mirror of Fate cool enough to continue following this iteration of the franchise. Narrative wise it's been an interesting remix of what we already know without coming across as convoluted as the previous timeline had become.

If you like SOTN, you should check out the new Strider game that's coming out. It looks like they took a lot of cues from SOTN. Complete with trading the world traveling that was part of all the previous Strider games, for a single complex location ala Dracula's Castle.
