my question was rhetorical b/c i know there used to be discriminatory practices against women of darker pigmentation and larger, more curvy BBW type women.

its certainly changed now, but that used to be a real thing

its not picking on them tbh, but i guess to highlight an issue that is still prevalent in our society today that you feel that the only way someone can be beneficial to your cause is if they look a certain way. In this case, lighter skinned women vs darker skinned women, which ultimately keeps a divide in the community.

Then he told me he get down on the DL.....

Back then there were only a handful of traditionally black colleges.

From what I know, Wilberforce was one of the largest at the time.

Not that big of a stretch to consider it to be a microcosm of what was going on at other black colleges as well.

The AKA's didn't let darker-skinned women in until they started to get called out on their exclusionary practices.

Similar to how some companies in the past would hire a token black to make it seem like they weren't racist.

Just looking at that School Daze clip someone posted should give you an idea that........although not as blatant..........it was still like that in the early 80's.

Pretty obvious that clip was about AKAs and Deltas.
