So I briefly read up on this. It's a war between Egyptian and Norse gods. I'm guessing all the Egyptian gods are black.

Gaiman hasn't been anything but dense with his writing ever since he wrapped Sandman. He forgot how to be equally epic while still being able to trim the uneccessary fat.

Ummm, that's completely wrong. It's about a brewing war between the Old Gods (members of the mythological pantheons like the Norse, Greek, Egyptian, etc...) and the New Gods (the personifications of things like the internet, mass media, mass transit, etc...). It's an ok story. The pacing is pretty off sometimes and I don't know how it will work on TV to be honest.
Anansi's Boys is another book from the same author and it's much better, definitely worth a read IMO.
Sidenote: There are a few Egyptian gods in the book. Based on the descriptions they are either tan or black not white though.

The book is a chore. I'm currently reading it and the plot doesn't really make an appearance until like 200 pages in.
It has some fun scenes, and its a good premise but Gaiman literally spent like two-three pages explaining the environment the character traveled on. It was ridiculous and boring asf.
He gets a little too descriptive and too poetic at times.

Yeah, and honestly, there is a big chunk of the book that doesn't really mean anything to you until after the climax of the story. Like you seriously think the story is about over and feel like most of the book was a waste of time, and then he kinda wraps up nicely, but you're still like meh...
