Heres the thing with Krit.
He is obviously way better then J.Cole and on par with Kendrick. Kendrick gets the slight edge because Kendrick is more versatile, and versatility will get you a long way in this industry especially if you are versatile and talented.
Krit has every skill set to make him have a great career even as a mainstream artist. But right off bat he needs a better team. I have no idea what the fuck Def Jam is doing with him.
Secondly he needs to branch out just a bit more. I'll be the first to say I love his sound, and if he continued to cater to it Id have no issue with it. With that being said, that sound will never get him past his current fanbase and into more folks ears. He needs something to draw people in. His song with Ross (although dope) I thought was too close to his sound. Maybe he wasn't aiming for it to be a mainstream record and thats why.
Part of the reason that GKMC is so good is that alot of the songs don't sound the same, and the radio/hit records (Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe, Swimming Pools, Poetic Justice) cater to a more mainstream sound while still being great lyrical records catchy as hell without sounding forced. Thats a delicate balance to maintain. And although Krit does have some records that should have been bigger (Country Shit was big for a while could have been better, Money on the Floor should have been bigger) They don't veer away from his sound at all.
Can he get there I think so cuz dude is clearly ultra talented, but he has to take more risk if he wants to get there. He can't be so scared of alienating his fanbase that he just sticks to one type of sound and don't expand. Kendrick can get on a Miguel track, or a Tame Impala track or Imagine Dragons, still spit fire shit and it doesn't sound forced or anything. Krit needs to show that skill
