Am I the Only One who Like Heavy Tags on Mixtapes?

It depends on who's hosting. Some mixtape dj's have some creative tags, some not so much.

SN: Why does DJ scream always sound like he's about to rape somebody?

DJ Drama is the w-GANGSTA GREEZY-orst. He does it all the t-GANGSTA GREEZY-ime. Like you can't complete a tho-GANGSTA GREEZY-ught.

yeah, i just loved hearing sirens and random gunshots and really getting into a verse right before the whole thing is rewinded and played to that exact same point, at which point it rewinds again.

I also loved when Kay Slay would yell "damn" over the best punchlines.

I also loved when Big Mike would spend the first 10-15 seconds dissing another DJ. B/c when i listen to a mixtape, i'm listening for the DJ address his dumbass beef with another DJ.

I loved hearing DJ Envy yell his name at the beginning of every song, along with "people's choice!".

Loved hearing Clue yell his name and have it echo through half a verse.

I guess when i listen to music i'm not trying to induce a seizure by overworking my brain by trying to have it filter all the noise Dj's throw on music so they can remind me a zillion times a song that they're the one that made the mixtape.

Everything you said there condescendingly, I truly enjoy.

depends on the tag. usually I don't, but when it comes to shit like the Drought is Over mixtapes I can't help but do my own "The Empire. If you don't hear their drops then this is not an exclusive" and the other shit

I like them when they come in at the right time. Trap-A-Holics got the best ones though. And my favorite is Juiceman's drop on Holiday's tapes,

"Holiday seeeeeeeasoonnnnnn....AYE!"

Naw i think Gucci got the best one with "Holliday Season BITCH!!"

ill post!

Nah sometimes the be on point.. Especially when you hear a crazy line for the first time and you reach to replay the whole song and the Dj do his oh shit bring that back.. You be like yes nigga that shit was crazy

A well placed shout out, skit, funny interlude, etc, definitely adds to a project. Drama is the king of that shit. He does it just enough to be funny and shit, but not enough to be annoying. His interludes and shout outs on Jeezy's and Tip's tapes are evidence of this.

'Every street nigga ain't a rapper. Every rapper ain't a street nigga'

'Gangsta Grillz, you bastards!'

Etc.

Coincidentally, his patna Don Cannon is the worst at this shit. Seems like he started wanting to get his name out there like Drama so he just started yelling random corny shit on all his tapes. SMH. Got out of his lane.

I love the live hosting of DJ Screw tapes. They give shoutouts, talk shit and spit. He did his mix tapes in real time 1 take even the freestyles so it always felt like you were at Screw house with the rest of the SUC recording with them. I also like DJ Clue voice echoing over tracks. Like frankoceanisgay said a lot of times I rember the precise Adlibs and tags from the dj on songs I hear from mixtapes

It can add to the song, but at this point in hip hop history it's been done so much that it's annoying to me no matter who does it.
