However (and this is a bit O/T), a recurring element pops up in many peoples arguments is men who are bi are actually gay because they figure straddling the fence of homo and heterosexuality is safer than being perceived as gay......And thats true to an extent; being labeled as gay leads to a slippery slope of being perceived as completely lacking masculinity, a very important trait in our American society.

But why don't people think the same exists with women? Why don't people think women aren't just as, if not more so, pressured by society to be heterosexual?

Remember, we live in a patriarchal societal where the relationships a woman has (girlfriend, wife, mother, daughter) is a huge part in defining who she is.

I think the reason a lot of women don't completely jump the fence into full blown Lesbos is 1). women are trained up from childhood to be wifes and mothers; traditional relationships are all they know and 2). because they realize (and maybe not even consciously) that homosexuality can equate into rejecting the traditional relationships that STRONGLY define a woman's place in our society.

Put it like this: a man can never marry or have kids, but if he has a career, no one says shit. Because a career makes for a good excuse for men when they don't engage in traditional relationships (plus carving a niche in society is one of the acceptable roles of men in our society). The same doesn't exist for women. They'll be labeled "dike", "crazy", or "failure" for not eventually settling down and raising a family.
