Agree with Fishcale. I have Zero incentive to listen to the whole lp again. Supreme Clientelle I purchased CD atleast 3 times almost ritualisticaly (replace lost or scratched joints)

Fishscale has joints that's sound borderline gimicky -(say hi "Kilo" 70's samples worked for American Gangster not here though. It sounded like some Sanford n Son type stuff over and over.

Sanford and Son bangs in the whip...

@BenE its IMPOSSIBLE for somenone to get any p****y banging Samford n Son theme song in the whip.

that's not true... I've gotten pussy to the theme of What's Happening Now... it shouldn't be too hard gettin it to Sanford and Son...

When the fuck was vol 3 critically acclaimed? and smfh at stillmatic being on the list.

cruel summer, hunger for more,ti vs tip, and bone resurrection was never critically acclaimed

The love below was never a classic to me to begin with, but theres a handful of timeless records on it.

fishscale, watch the throne, stillmatic, untitled, trill, man on the moon all still crank.

co-sign

Nas - Untitled

nas-untitled.jpg

"Nas's Untitled garnered multiple 5 Cig debates when it dropped summer of 2008. With the impending historical election, and so much going on economically at the time, it was supposed to change the trajectory of Hip-Hop and bring it back to it's rebellious, message-bearing roots. But five years later, the album's fallen quickly below even what's considered the standard for a Nas album. On some charts, it may not even belong in the upper half of his catalog. With all said and done, Untitled winds up a better-than-average project, but needless to say, far far away from the classic, game changing album it was intended to be." -- Raj

Who said Untitled was supposed to be all that?

Basically a quarter of these albums were not viewed as 'GREAT' when they first came out... they just caught a critiques circle jerk affect, and then a week after they came out were relegated to solid album status...

Another quarter were not even rated highly by critiques when they first dropped...

vol 3 was pretty much known to be a lackluster album when it dropped,

tip vs ti was pretty much known to be just ok

untitled was never rated that high from what i remember

stillmatic is probably the closest to what this list is supposed to embody it was surely overated, was 'just' a dope nas album at a time when people didnt expect much from him, but all the 5 mic greatest album ever talk was nonsense, and its still a dope nas album

T.I. vs TIP was critically acclaimed? Man til Trouble Man dropped I still felt like TI personally owed me money for buying that bullshit double album

"when was the last time u listened to __"

"it's good but not as good as ___ (Blueprint; Supreme Clientele w/e)

this is a cop out & lazy. i hate when bloggers say shit like this to try & justify their bias&falling for trends & gimmicks ('g-unit albums were fun'- dickriding comment) not listening to something in a while doesnt reduce the quality. its totally possible to listen to some shit so much u tire of it or dont feel the need to go back frequently& not being as good as a previous classic is a stupid way of thinking & has nothin to do with the current album

these dudes need to just speak for themselves & stop tryna pass off their wack opinions as general consensus.....esp when they (in general) try so hard to defend new age rap by pointing out how much "new music" there is. It defeats ur point of goin back to listen to a Fishscale or Love Below if theres 10 years of new music between it. Has nothing to do with quality

I disagree that several of those are classics

lol at a Drake album that came out less than 5 years ago already "not aging well" no shit

People are worried about the choices, but honestly look at the justifications and you can see why the list should be dismissed. For instance, with Fishscale, the writer says it's good, just not as good as Ironman, Supreme Clientelle, and Bulletproof Wallets and then the writer goes on to say that few albums are. So even by his own logic, what he's saying doesn't support that Fishscale aged poorly. It only suggests that it's not the best album in a great catalog.

On top of that, half those albums haven't even been around very long. If an album has only been out 2 years, and people are already saying "it hasn't aged well," then it probably wasn't all that good to begin with.

"Not aging well" is a cop out and something people say to discredit an album. When I listen to 90's albums THEY ALL SOUND DATED DUH THEY WERE RECORDED IN THE 90's. Those albums take me back to that specific era. When I listen to a Illmatic of Ready To Die it takes me back to that time period. If you're not feeling an album then it's because you grew out of it. But please cut the "dated" or "didn't age well" crap.
