There is a point in what Jemele said about compliments as well. If it's an innocent compliment that you give and then go about your day, cool, thank you that was sweet. while i've never told a female i didnt know "smile", i guess i just dont see what the issue is
i mean, not every interaction with the opposite sex is going to come at the convenience of a mutual friend. You just might get approached every now and then which was, last i checked, something women looked to as a sign of a guy thats really interested.
