But the absolute worst shit that has happened to me more than once is to be pretending to listen to someone's story while just nodding and saying "yea, that's crazy," every few minutes. But every once in awhile you get an asshole that calls you out like "Are you even listening? What did I just say?"

That is awkward.

I always find it best to be doing something viable with my hands. Like counting coins or something. People get so distracted by what their saying and what your doing. As long as you make eye contact now and then. They never question if you're really listening. Infact, for some reason, breaking what you doing and saying "no way!!". Will have someone saying you're a great listener.
