You don't have to open the window when you can shoot it out.

I considered this possibility. That raises more questions than answers. I would think if a windows is breached a sensor of some sort triggers an alarm. The reports say they found what room he was in via smoke alarm that was triggered from gun smoke. Why they were able to find his location from a breached window is suspect.

Paddock opened fire from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, killing at least 50 and wounding hundreds around 10:15 p.m. during a performance by Jason Aldean at the Route 91 Harvest Festival, authorities said Monday.

Can those windows be shot out? I would think they are pretty thick because, of how high they are. And if they were someone should have heard the shots from inside the hotel.

A SWAT team blew open the entry to the 32nd-floor room of the hotel with an explosive and found Paddock dead, police said. The hotel was across the street from the outdoor venue.
