so the president of the westerners can use his real name but Africans want to be called Peter?

So you gonna act like this hasnt been an argument way way before President Obama, thats like white logic thinking racism ended when obama got elected. There are proven studies that people are chosen for employment , loans , education etc based on (geographic) names...

And in all honesty Barack to the general American public is less threatening than Hussein...

So basically it's white acceptance>>>>> cultural pride

I work as a substitute teacher from time to time and I have to admit, it's ALWAYS the ones with the ghetto ass names that cause the most problems. The more ridiculous the name the more ratchet the kid acts.

Should be able to name your kid what you want. Like someone already said, different names have different connotations in different cultures. My Gambian friend's birthday name is Doodoo. Spelt differently but that's it. No fuckin' way he cudda got through school with a name like that

Cultural pride extends way beyond something as petty as changing something as petty as your forname.

by your logic Malcolm X was all for white acceptance (his name did change in the end) but during his active years he was Malcolm X and managed to preach cultural pride

No..changing your name from Uchenna to Sam would be a better example

I always wondered why some Africans love to flaunt their heritage around African-Americans but then get around whites and dont use their real names.

so you have met every africa yeah ? ok

Are you familiar with the word some?

so what makes your point valid then ?...

I personally know alot of Africans who don't go by their given name..and SOME of them are the same ones wearing tshirts with "at least I know where I come from" on them...if their so proud why dont they use their real names?

A multitude of reasons

most africans i know have two or three names, a native one and an english on because of colonialism, second you surname is more important than you forename in african interms of heritage, history and tradition, thirdly none of you dudes no matter how much we teach you,you can't pronounce our names properly, then you try to shorten it so it can sound more english to your liking and ridicule us for having them because generally america is ignorant towards african nations' history and tradition (whether its in your books or media you still render us primitive black or white), thirdly we are not stupid we wanted to be hired for jobs and get into higher education since america won't make a huge compromise for us in that department we have to make thats compromise for the bigger picture...

Yeah I work with a Nigerian woman we call Mary but her first name got like 10 letters and starts with an "O" and she pretty much said she goes by Mary mainly because people can't pronounce her actual 1st name correctly

In the defence of these niggas with Western monikers, it's very long to explain how to pronounce shit to crackas.

"Adeeetula?"

"nah it's Addy-Tola"

"Adeeetoola?"

"nah bruddah Addy-Tola"

"... Adutula?"

"smh just call me Chris fam"

So what if his name changes , i dont get how thats destroys everything he stands for as a man or woman.

Your argument is petty especially for issues of forenames , if you had said people are changing surnames outchea your argument would have merit.

Letting people call you anything but your damn name is wack..so if you were Kunta Kinte you would have been proud to be called Toby?

A self-proclaimed Nazi dad and his wife cannot have back their four children, three of whom have Nazi-inspired names, a court has ruled.

Adolf Hitler Campbell, six, and his younger sisters Joycelynn Aryan Nation, five, and Honszlynn Hinler, four, were taken into custody in January 2009.

State officials also took another son, Hons Campbell, from his parents Heath and Deborah Campbell just hours after he was born in November
