That's the thing with BPD. It's essentially untreatable. However, people tend to "grow" out of it around 40 and there has been moderate success in group work.
The hope as a clinician is that you can keep them alive or keep them from destroying their life (and others) until then.
I think it is HPD in this case...
I believe someone can be treated if they realize what made them that way and make peace with it, along with coping strategies to utlize in stressful situations.
It is more of a destructive, learned behavior that has to be undone.
Without outside intervention, I doubt people grow out of it especially if they keep their good looks up, which is their main asset.
