wow...what a way for a kid to last see her dad...heading off to jail...

then he kills himself,..

selfish as hell.

So it woulda been better for a kid to see her dad through glass and timed collect calls her whole life?

it's selfish to put her in that situation period.

her and the mom.

Possibly. Quite possible depending on the prison they could actually have had contact visits which means no glass.

Now all that child will ever get is the opinion of other people about him and never have him to explain anything to them in his own words.

Just because he fucked up doesn't mean he wouldn't have anything of substance to add to that child's life.

Look I'm not saying it was a good thing he offed himself and that his daughter is better off with things being this way. But to a kid, the best ability is availability. Yea yall can keep in contact and see each other regularly, but there's nothing like having an issue and being able to have your parent on hand to guide you through it and fix it. You not getting to know each other through phone calls man...you just aint.

When you sick at 3am your father in prison ain't giving you medicine and sitting by your bedside til you go to sleep. When you have a nightmare you ain't running to your father's cell to sleep next to him. When you have issues with teachers your father ain't coming up to the school to sort it out. Your father ain't disciplining you behind bars. Your father ain't teaching you about boys through some glass. Not in a way that's gonna stick. Trust gets built through consistency. If you're not a consistent and accessible presence in your child's life it's hard for me to say that your child just knowing you're alive is worth much.

I'm not a parent, but from the perspective of a woman who's father was long distance in her childhood (not in prison lol), those lessons are not hitting home unless you are consistently there setting and being the example.

As a kid who father was in prison you are absolutely right. If he had life I wouldn't waste my time going to see him for the rest of his or my life for some shit he shouldn't have did.

Everything you said was already understood which is why it wasn't said.

I never took it that you meant it was good thing he killed himself.

But even with everything you just said he could've still had a positive impact in his child's life is all I'm saying. Even if the child has or is going to have a step-father filling that role of availability.

If you've seen the movie The Place Beyond the Pines. Then you would remember how the boy had all those questions about his father once he found out who he was. But could never get any real answers to his questions because he never had to chance to speak to his own father himself. So he always wondered about a bunch different shit.

Its possible that is exactly how Hernandez child could be because they will never have the chance to speak with their father about more than just the situation that put him in prison.

He once made millions recently went broke and looking at a life sentence
