The Southern states all had these laws on the books, and unless they've repealed them, it's safe to assume that laws are still active. Virigina repelled theirs, however in the case of Louisiana, if your birth certificate has your race as black, you have to prove that you aren't.

The one drop rule was designed so that individuals who could pass as white not be able to do so, as the powers that be did not want the genetics of black people entering into their race. My mother is from Louisiana, and my father is from Eritrea (East Africa), so I grew up knowing parts of my family who migrated before my birth to places like California to pass as white for better job opportunities. While these individuals are not black they are people of color. In places like French controlled Louisiana once a person had white blood they were not considered black, and were given almost as much privilege as whites, this is also documented in early South Carolina also.

However, living in the society that we do, and knowing that the closer to white you are the better, classifying those who could pass as white or other, or who have a white parent (biracial) as black, does a disservice to black people. Because those people can and are being used to replace black people whether its in jobs etc. You see it a lot in the media and entertainment industry where mixed race women are used to play black women, becoming the faces of black women internationally, while authentic black women are kept out of jobs. This is why Lupita Nyongo received so much praised from Black women, and white people; but for some reason a lot of black men were not feeling her because was too dark.

Back in the 30s and 40s their was black entertainment acts that would travel to Europe to perform for whites. These blacks were so white looking that the Europeans would walk out the shows because they wanted to see real "black" people. Today, this still takes place, especially in Hip-Hop videos where the color caste system is often used for video models, where black women aren't even used in such, anymore.

For example, in places like Brazil race mixing with whites was ideal, as blacks thought that by race mixing such would liberate them from their oppression. All it did was create a class of mixed race people who had the same attitudes about blacks as they whites did.

Famous picture from Brazil describing this dynamic of a Black mother praying to God, that her mixed race daughter had a child with a white man, thus having and thanking God she has a white grandchild. Based on the interracial statistics a lot of black men of this generation will be the grandparents of white children.

Reparations wouldn't have to be fought for

You dont get what your owed, you get what you can enforce or negotiate

There is definitely room for people to cheat the system. Many people, even whites, in America ain't as pure as many of them like to think. I guarantee there would be some pulling out that secret family photo of a black relative.

There were many cases in the old days evolving property disputes, inheritance, and people being arrested cause they looked like an interracial couple(which was illegal at the time). Deciding who's black enough for reparations would definitely bring back similar arguments in court again.
