Word. It's ironic that a few years ago 50 was cuttin on Koch for being an indie, and now this is the route they take. And if I'm not mistaken, one of Fat Joe's albums there outsold HFM2.

Kinda Sorta. Most record labels have some success stories and artists that sell well, but usually those sales revenues are used to fund other projects that sometimes aren't as successful. So Ross came out with Teflon Don last year and that went Gold, Kanye had MBDTF last year and that went plat, but Def Jam also had Wu-Massacre which didn't sell a lot, Distant Relatives, Sir Lucius Left Foot, & How I Got Over which they haven't got returns on from the recouping process. It's a shameful that those records didn't sell, in part due to Def Jam's own poor marketing of those projects, but essentially successful records are mostly used to compensate for the unsuccessful ones.

Well, we can credit DJ's downfall to shitty business moves. They spent all that money shoving Rihanna and Kanye in our faces. I mean for god's sake, they gave Kanye a half hour video on every music channel on some Michael Jackson shit. Them other projects didn't see a tenth of that same promotion. I didn't know the Roots and Big Boi had albums out til a week in advance, but they was quick to let Kanye close out the VMAs. And Ross is basically doing guerrilla promotion right now, he went gold basically on his own terms.
With G Unit, you're talking about a label that started 8 years ago. When your label is that young, especially with the investment 50 put in, you'd think they'd only get bigger. Banks should've been a consistent platinum, at least gold artist. If you remember that XXL cover with the whole G Unit on there, you'd remember how powerful they were at one point. As bad as DJ is businesswise, 50 is just as bad. His beefs with Buck and Game, the only marketable artists other than Banks, didn't help things either. He capitalized more for himself than his label, and now he's stuck with Banks, Yayo and... Shawty Lo... LMAO
