Steelers vs. Raiders: Oakland Shows Its Potential in Comeback Victory

The Oakland Raiders have been the punchline of many NFL jokes over the last decade, and rightfully so, as the franchise has failed to finish above .500 since reaching the Super Bowl in 2002.

There weren't many jokes directed at Dennis Allen's team on Sunday, as it roared back from a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter to beat the Pittsburgh Steelers at O.co Coliseum, 34-31.

The Steelers had the upper hand for the first three quarters thanks to Ben Roethlisberger's four touchdown passes, but Palmer and Co. took advantage of an Antonio Brown fumble to tie the game at 31 with 6:30 remaining.

Following a successful defensive stand, the Raiders marched down the field. Carson Palmer led the charge by orchestrating a near-flawless two-minute drive and completing his last four passes to perfectly set up Sebastian Janikowski for a game-winning, 43-yard field goal.

After suffering two ugly losses to open the season, this was a much-needed win for the struggling AFC West team.

The Raiders played the majority of the fourth quarter with heavy hearts, as wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey was carted off the field on a stretcher after falling victim to a helmet-to-helmet hit by Steelers cornerback Ryan Mundy.

Not only did this victory serve as a testament to the Raiders' resiliency after a potentially debilitating injury, it allowed the Raiders to show that they have the necessary talent to become a quality team this season.

Roethlisberger and the Steelers are no joke. This wasn't the Raiders coming out and beating one of their subpar AFC West foes. It was a very impressive win by a team that had already been written off by many.

Palmer isn't the quarterback that he once was, but he is a fine fit in this Raiders defense that is predicated more on speed than anything else.

We haven't even mentioned Darren McFadden yet. Run DMC ran for 113 yards on just 18 carries against the Steelers and continues to show that he is one of the brightest feature backs the game has to offer.

The young group of Philip Wheeler, Tyvon Branch and Rolando McClain gives Raiders fans a glimmer of hope on the defensive end in the future, as they combined for 30 tackles on the day.

Allen's players still have a long way to go, but 1-2 looks a lot better than 0-3. The Raiders have a chance to hang around until the end in a mediocre division, so make sure you don't sleep on them

Darrius Heyward-Bey Injury: Updates on Raiders WR's Head Injury

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter (via WhoSay), Darius Heyward-Bey is in stable condition after suffering a neck injury on Sunday. Doctors don't believe Heyward-Bey suffered a concussion but he'll undergo further tests on his neck on Monday to determine the full extent of the damaged caused by collision late in Sunday's contest vs. Pittsburgh.

I think are secondary is about to step up and surprise people, i really do have faith in Mike Huff at cb, he have the size and height and fluid in the hips (no greek) and he played cb at Texas and covers in the slot when we went to nickle for years anyways.

Mitchell at SS is a plus against the run and he lay the lumber and Branch does his thing at fs, we need more better play out of Pat Lee

C/S HUFF AT CB! I'VE BEEN WANTING HIM BACK THERE SINCE LAST YEAR! IM STILL A LIL SHAKY ABOUT MITCHELL, AND BRANCH GETS MY RESPECT. I HAVE SOME CONFIDENCE IN LEE AS FAR AS HIS SIZE AND ATHLETICISM BUT HE DOES NEED A LIL MORE GAME EXPIRIENCE WHICH HE SHOULD GET IN OAKLAND SO TIME WILL TELL ON HIM. I STILL THINK THEY SHOULD HAVE SIGNED TRACY PORTER. ALSO WE JUST SIGNED TORI GURLEY WR FROM VIKINGS. AND ALSO ANOTHER FORMER PACKER LB VIC SO'OTO BUT WHAT WE REALLY NEED IS A TIGHT END! EITHER WAY THEY MAKIN MOVES AND SHOWING THAT THEY WANA PATCH UP THE HOLES THAT THEY SEE AS THEY GO SO FOR THAT I CANT KNOCK EM...

CARTER SHOULD B GOOD FOR US AS FAR AS THE RUSH CUZ WE CANT SEEM TO STOP SHIT THRU THE GAPS!ESPECIALLY IF HE CAN STAY HEALTHY AND GET BACK IN GAME SHAPE ASAP...

2013 Pro Football Hall of Fame Nominees Announced

Thirteen former Raiders players, trainers and executives have been nominated for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2013.

Thirteen former Raiders players, trainers and executives have been nominated for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2013. The nominees include G Steve Wisniewski, RB Roger Craig, WR Tim Brown, TE Todd Christensen, athletic trainer George Anderson and executive Ron Wolf.

The complete list of candidates for the Class of 2013 consists of 127 nominees. From that list the Pro Football Hall of Fame Selection Committee will choose 25 candidates who will advance as semifinalist nominees. The list of 25 semifinalist nominees will be announced in late November. That semifinalist list will be further reduced by a mail ballot to 15 modern-era finalists and announced in early January.

The Class of 2013 will be selected from the list of the 15 modern-era finalists plus the two senior nominees (former Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Oilers nose tackle Curley Culp and former Green Bay Packers and Washington Redskins linebacker Dave Robinson) who were selected last month by the Hall of Fame’s Senior Selection Committee.

The actual voting for the Class of 2013 will be conducted at the Pro Football Hall of Fame Selection Committee’s annual meeting, which will be held on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013 the day before Super Bowl XLVII at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, La. The election results will be announced at a live announcement show immediately following the meeting.

While there is no set number for any class of enshrinees, the selection process by-laws provide that between four and seven new members will be selected.

The 2013 list of modern-era nominees includes 89 players, 14 coaches and 24 contributors, including former NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue and longtime team owners Bud Adams, Jr., Jack Kent Cooke, Ed DeBartolo, Jr., Robert Kraft, and Art Modell.

While a nominated player or coach must have been retired at least five consecutive seasons, a contributor, who is an individual who has made outstanding career contributions to pro football in capacities other than playing or coaching, may still be active in his pro football career. More information on the modern-era nominees can be found on the Hall of Fame’s official website at Profootballhof.com.
