The reason for the high rate of gun violence in the US is a curious one to say the least, but at the end of the day, I think it all can be contributed to the size of our population, population density, and the socioeconomics of the residents of the US.

Mind you, the rest of the Western world isn't all gravy, but they don't have the combination of these factors.

Britain, Canada, France, Spain, all have historic racial and ethnic issues and socioeconomic issues, but lack the population and/or the population density.

Basically when you have millions of people of all sorts of race, religion, income, sexual orientation, etc. etc. and stack them on top of each other AND instill in them the spirit of Western individualism, the results won't be pretty.

I think it has more to do with our culture than population size/density...

But specifically what in our culture tho?

IF your making the implication that the US individually promotes a culture of fear which is the driving force behind gun ownership (both legal and illegal), I'd argue that the rest of the Western world period fosters a culture of fear just as much, if not moreso.

Spain, England, and France for example are knee fucking deep in Islamophobia and have been for several years now. Even moreso than the US.

london-olympics-condoms-gi.jpg

It turns out that Olympians have a LOT of down time. In fact, so much down time that organizers of the Summer 2012 games in London have stocked the Athletes' Village with 150,000 condoms in anticipation of all of the behind-the-scenes feats expected to unfold when the games kick off on July 27th.

And this is nothing new In 2008, Beijing's organizers distributed 90,000 -- yes, ninety-thousand -- condoms to athletes. Oh, and Beijing's were printed with the words "Faster, Higher, Stronger."

"70 percent to 75 percent of Olympians are having sex during the Games," says U.S. soccer player Hope Solo.

"The Olympics is the height of your career, so you might do some things you don't usually do," adds British beach volleyball player Shauna Mullin.

So there you have it. Even if your favorite athletes don't snag a gold medal, you can be 70 to 75 percent sure they're scoring anyway.

i'm sorry to hear this but damn let's be real, why were all these kids at the fuckin midnight showing?

first thing i thought after hearing this: 'oh well at least there won't be any little kids since it's the midnight showing' - sure enough though.. SMH at parents these days

That's actually not something that's uncommon...it's Batman a superhero movie in the summer time...of course kids were going to be there...

right and nobody could have predicted this....

but would you recommend or take a 3month old child out at 12am to see a feature length film, in a crowded movie theater, surrounded by strangers....

just was kinda weird and a tad bit irresponsible....

anyhoo. i feel for the parents, if they are still around....

I'd say it'd be more irresponsible to take them during a time like a afternoon or early evening show where they're more likely to disturb the audience...would I recommend it? No, but I've been at movies during the day and a few midnight premiers and I can honestly say not once has the midnight premiere been disturbed by a crying or upset child yet I've seen plenty of parents have to leave or even be removed because their baby wouldn't shut up during the 7pm show
