WTH is a Conscious rapper/record

To be conscious simply means to be aware of your surroundings.

People misinterpret it to mean "backpack" rap, but I think they're different.

rap for the most part is considered ignorant, but entertaining. good at parties and teaches you to learn rhythm. but you don't want it found next to the Beatles Anthology Gold Edition Collectors CD. after all, rap is the voice of a world some like to pretend isn't real or they want no part of. they just like the beat.

so for the rare rapper that actually has something profound to say, they had to give them their on special sub-genre.

A conscious rapper is someone who speaks with genuine concern on the real world and his surroundings, both good and bad, in a respectable manner. He doesn't demean himself or his family/friends/enemies/neighborhood, but he speaks on everything as it is. The difference between a conscious artist and a gangta or drug rapper is that the conscious rapper doesn't glorify the bullshit he's surrounded by... he urges people to make things better.

Alot of people don't like conscious rap because they are plagued by a little thing called nihilism, which is the disbelief that things will get better and that they should just accept pain, hate, and death as an inevitability. They hate the idea of uplift and progression because somewhere along the line, they themselves lost hope. The reason why I asked if Kanye was still a conscious rapper is because there is little to no difference between his topics and anyone else's minus drugs and gangs. There is an aura of superficiality in his raps. That's all I was pointing out.
