I like Kanye a lot. He's one of my favorite producers too, but I don't think I'd give him artist of the decade. Who was crowned artist of the decade and who did the crowning?

I doubt its a skin thing with him, its more of a behavior thing with him. The voter's probably still hold a grudge against him because of what he did to that "lil princess" at the VMA's. I personally do not like Kanye, but I can see that he has had an impact on mainstream hiphop and pop culture at that. The Marshall Mathers LP was 2000 and that was his only great album of the noughties. He went AWOL for three years, came back with a shit album that showed zero growth and he gets artist of the decade... all I can do is shake my head

After Kanye got his shine on The Blueprint, everyone within the hip hop world started biting his style, which is just a testament to his consistency and enduring impact over the last decade.

When you tell Kanye's story, it doesn't start in '04, even though that's when he officially blew up as a solo artist. His name was known well before that, as his production impacted a culture.

He made a believer out of both Jay and Dame Dash, resurrected Common's career, was a "feature" on tracks with a whose who of the industry's big names, and produced an amount of music that is jaw-dropping.

In all honesty, a legitimate argument could be made for Kanye West as artist of the decade. There's a short list of artists that I can think of that would be on Ye's level as artist of the decade. I think that when considering Ye, one has to look beyond his impact on just Hip Hop though. As far as people biting his style, I think partial credit is due to Just Blaze in regard to production because he was just as important to the creation of the sound that was bitten from The Blueprint as Ye.

The only artists that I can think of that could be argued as being artist as decade as a contender for Kanye are:

Justin Timberlake

Madonna

Beyonce

Alicia Keys

Eminem

Jay Z

I dont think Em can be artist of the decade when he peaked in 2002. He was not putting out consistent good music throughout the decade. You can make a case for people like Justin Timberlake, Madonna, Beyonce etc.

Em was consistent enough to be the top seller. so he should be good to. as far as consistency though, I'd have to say Jay Z and Nas. them boys was on it. they got good work ethic. 50 gets points for impact. Nelly reigned supreme for black artists in sales but he started fading early (2004) Nelly barely made it to the middle of the decade.
