Why Successful Black Men in Brazil Won’t Marry Black Women

Let me say first that I do believe that an attitude that values whiteness over blackness is probably a part of the story here -- probably a big part.

But discussions like this tend not to be very rigorous in that other explanations are not satisfactorily ruled out.

For example, part of the explanation of this might be simple demographic facts. If there are 10 white women for every back woman, then even a black man who is indifferent to race -- meaning that he does not prefer white women -- will more likely than not end up with a white woman.

Another thing that could play a part is the attitude of black women. If some black men have bought into the idea that white is better, it would be surprising if no black women did so as well. So some of these women, especially the most desirable ones, may not be inclined to date and marry brothers. As someone pointed out in the thread on the Brazilian beauty queen who was (so she says) dethroned for being too black, she had a white husband. Of course, we don't know if she had any preferences. But she might have. The more general point however is that we should not assume that all black women have preferences for same-race men, and this could be a contributing factor to the statistics this woman is talking about.

I think that's an interesting point but it doesn't account for the familiarity felt with women of your own race. I don't date outside of my race but I don't knock those that do. What I dont respect are niggas (American or otherwise) that completely disregard black women. There's no explaining that. The people interviewed made their positions clear on why they don't fuck with black women

That's what I was saying. I mean, I have never been to Brazil, but these kinds of stories usually leave out any discussion of the preferences of black women, as if all of them are checking for brothers. Something which I know from personal experience (though not in Brazil) that is not always true.

So what's the deal with the black women down there? Are there a lot of them who aren't checking for us?

How conscious could those brothers be if they let one experience with one black woman turn them completely off to a whole race??
