He's recognized, but don't think he ever "blew up".

Tmiing, having the right machine, but having a Dr.dre esque sound could've create a "no need" by the industry thus kept him where he was.

However,he is skillful enough to have had his 100% his own style.

That would help him

Blow up.

Note: all producers who "blew up" had a signature sound or own style.
