Why are There Hardly Any Groups in Hip Hop No More?

Thread has been done already. And no, Wu didn't fuck up the group thing... you still had BCC (who had groups of their own with Heltah Skeltah, OGC, Black Moon and Smif N Wessen), Dogg Pound, Gangstarr, and even them groups you named, some of which came out around Wu era. Now you got Black Eyed Peas, Travis Porter, Clipse, Black Hippy...

Come to think about it, you kinda got a point, or I'm too lazy to think of anymore. Not so much Wu's fault, but there's definitely a lack of groups in the traditional sense. I think it's cuz everyone wants to be a CEO and do the whole YMCMB/MMG/GOOD thing instead of supporting each other and coming in as a team.

I think it's a "me first" kinda thing. Cats would rather become their own "star" than share the spotlight with a bunch of other niggas. It's like how Michael Jordan's success made the NBA more about the individual than the team. Slaughterhouse will prolly be the last "new" group of elite rhymers to link up and release an album.

The part about splitting money is real.

Another thing is that groups are usually pushed by the talents of one member anyway.

Look at any rap group and you probably will find more influence of one guy over other guys, then add ego, then the splitting money argument, then fan favoritism (underrated reason) and there you have it.

same reason why there is an infinite amount rappers

same reason why all they people who used to invest in artists (mid level drug dealers) jus stopped and said

"i can do that shit myself"

everyone thinks they can do it

so why involve the next man

its no point. fans will say one is better than the other then egos get in the way when the perceived better one wants to go solo. yall already touched on the money splits.

Niggas is out for themselves these days point blank, plus theres too much bullshit in the industry, you know if that shit turns brothers/fathers & other members of against eachother then its damn sure gone mess up a friendship.

Hip Hop groups was once the foundation of the genre foreal. from grandmaster and the furious 5, to run dmc,to epmd, the wu etc...

these labels pick and choose who and what to put out.

I'm Talking about New Groups, So The Last Four & Dipset don't Count & a Argument can be Made if they are Relevant or Not!

Good Music , MMG are Labels & Not Groups. I'll Give you La Coka Nostra & I Guess Coke Boys & The mafia is Kinda a Group, But Boy They Suck (But I Do Kinda Dig Chinx Drugs) !

I Never Heard of A.O.T.P or A.B.N Renegadez, So I Can't Say Nothing about Them, But You Gotta Admit it's Still Light on The Groups & Especially when you talking about Good Ones
