i'm not a fan of indie movies like that, but I'll always watch the ones that have an interesting plot.

watch Ballast last night and it was one of the worst movies i think i've ever seen in my life. I could see how it would be a good film if all you cared about was cinemetography or whatever, but from an entertainment standpoint, it was a waste of my life.

im not always sure how to differentiate between hollywood and independant....dnt get me wrong, i can see a clear difference between the films you posted and say "jumper" or "transformers", so yeh i can see the difference there, but when it comes to my 5 favourite films, though maybe interchangeable with a few, how would you define "eternal sunshine of the spotless mind", "a beautiful mind", "lost in translation", "donnie darko" and "natural born killers"?

i kinda get it, like i do like independant film more than the majority of hollywood.........but with movies like the aforementioned im not sure on which side of the line they fall.

oh and im guessing "bug" is an independant film i like that film

Carandiru

very close to a documentary, so if you into prison shit and don't mind reading subtitles this film is for you

its based on a true story about the massacre of inmates at the prison in Brazil when police dealt with a riot. The place wasn't even a prison though. It was like a holding place for dudes before they even had been sentenced. Similar to Sona in the Prison Break series

I won't give shit away but the film focuses on a selection of inmates and their life in Carandiru. It also has sub stories on how they became to be inmates. Some amusing, shocking and interesting moments throughout the film

lol only in a place like Brazil

As a former film major, i have an affection for independent films. dating all the way back to the mid-late 70's when most filmmakers were influenced and borrowed greatly from kenneth anger. but to anybody who posses a keen affection for independent cinema. you should def check out one that i consider to be one of my more recent favorite independent movies. its titled "dogtooth". its a foreign film by greek director lanthimos where the synopsis in a nutshell is about a wife and her husband imprisoning the three of their children, confining them only to the household exclusively. preventing and cutting off all contact from the outside world. to the children, the exterior of where they are is only what theyre parents tell them it is. only outside contact they have is from a woman named christina. and when she enters the picture, boy do things go south. as a bit of an exclaimer, this film is quite disturbing and even surreal at times. so if thats not your thing, i wouldnt recommend u to check this out. but it def. does a great job at mixing dark humor all while trying to convey an underlying message
