Everything falls back to the fans imo. I keep hearing niggas yap about the stage of music and wanting quality, but why the fuck are the quality artist not selling. There has to be atleast 500,000 fans who can spend 10 bucks to support a Common, Blu, Ghostface, etc album, it seems to me fans spend more time complaining about the music then actually supporting it.

i agree..but at the end of the day you have people who are support lesser acclaimed artists, and then you have people who think that if you arent visible all the time then you aren't good. seems like ppl are afraid to go out and listen to other artists cuz they may be afraid that they actually do make better music then the ones force fed to the public.

Maybe the artist who are viewed as lessor need to do a better job or moving towards the middle. I understand that people don't want to listen to backpacker/underground music all day, i think the smart artist find a way to balance criritical acclaim (underground sounding music) and commercial success (accessible music).

i feel you on that but that wasnt really the point i was tryna make. alotta niggas act like its impossible to like a variety of music. its not about how accessible the music is...its more how the artist is viewed in general. i dont wanna debate with a nigga thats gonna bring money and exposure as his main weapon concerning quality of music. i don;t wanna hear niggas defending artist like everything so and so drops is gospel or the hottest shit out.

J. Cole is the fuckin man right now

the problem is that hip hop has become so much about entertaining as opposed to being real and deep, that anyone who comes across as ordinary and/or typical, is ignored and called 'soft' whereas the more mediocre artists who create exasperated gangsta personas are applauded.

People care more about the person than the music.
to be honest hip hop has always been about entertainment..its just the balance in whats promoted has changed.

Yeah, truth of the matter is most of these fans are trend followers, especially females. Rap fans over the years have become very monolithic in thinking, and put limitations of the music, that's why the music is so trendy and formulaic. Once niggas see a formula that works, it gets milked to death and leaves no room for individualism. The shit really is like wrestling, niggas got their crews and wrestlers that they ride with, and that's it.

But I've learned that most of these people don't love hip hop or more specifically rap at the core, they love what it's become [cash cow, means to an end ($$ or pussy or popularity)]. That's why they're so careless when it comes to the actual music.

That's exactly it. Most bandwagon fans who discuss sales, money and relevancy don't actually like hip hop

They are simple minded and easily influenced through material and can't formulate a authentic listening opinion because them and much their peers don't have true values when it comes to music. They do as they are told from marketing and promotion provided by major corporations. Who ever the radio, blog and tv promote that's who's hot. They don't care the artist are made up to dilute their intelligence and insult the quality of music and make them look like fools because the exects know the artist trash but put them out to prove the point they can make a person believe anything and get paid either way.

C/S

Hip Hop music in general goes thru different phases. It was the party music, then we moved thru the intelligent/knowledge phase, then the hardcore/gansta rap, to the money and drugs phase, then the Boss/mafia phase, now the extreme commercial/packaged hip hop. I would love for it to get back to the essence of truly making music for the sake of music. We need to get back into writing albums with concepts and not what will only get airplay commercially.

I blame the record companies for putting out bad, cookie-cutter products

If an artists life isn't interesting his music isn't interesting

it has to be drugs guns and bitches and hoes and pimpin and police chases and rape and murder and cocaine and sodomy and trying not to get sodomized in prison

For this to happen OP, lil wayne would have to die. Not only die, but in an embarrassing way so he doesn't get mention along with 2pac and biggie. I'm hoping for baby breaking a blood vessel in his ass.

Lil wayne being shot in the foot and bleeding to death would also suffice.
