Apple for legal OSX or Lenovo with Intel chip sets for a hacintosh.

Lenovo and Asus for Windows. For any Windows laptop get at least 6GB of RAM and a Intel I5-I7 2.0GHZ or better. Don't buy Acer, or Gateway because they have cheap motherboards and die after 1 year.

I just purchased a Sony Vaio

Component: 12GB (4GB fixed onboard + 8GB removable) DDR3-1333MHz

Component: Blu-ray Disc™ player

Component: Internal (4400mAh) + sheet (4400mAh) lithium polymer batteries

Component: Black

Component: NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 640M LE (2GB) hybrid graphics with Intel® Wireless Display technology

Component: No engraving

Component: Windows® 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Component: Microsoft® Office 2010 Starter

Component: No Fresh Start

Component: 15.5" LED backlit Full HD display (1920 x 1080)

Component: 640GB (7200rpm) hard drive

Component: 3rd gen Intel® Core™ i7-3612QM quad-core processor (2.10GHz / 3.10GHz with Turbo Boost)

^^^ I should have gotten the faster Processor but I didnt. So Ill just pay to have them add it on later on I guess. Im hoping the 12 GB RAM will make up for the 2.10 GHz with only 3.10 turbo boost. THe next fastest is 2.90 GHz with 3.60 Turbo Boost.

There is no best brand.

What do you want to use it for? Its all about hardware.

Video/Graphics(1) or just surfing the internet(2)?

For the first you need a good Videocard and RAM.

The second you need nothing special and most new laptops will be good to go.

Ive used alot and if you ask me id say go for apple when it comes to laptops.

But just dont forget those 2 diff points.

Then your gonna need some mucsle. I would recommend buyer from custom built resellers, you get the hard you what, great support and no bloat ware. It cheaper that way have they build it like a desktop.

Resellers are middle men they take orders and have the main companies build them. They in turnthe have to provide the techical support

Any recommendations on Hackintosh sites?

I recommend ASUS or TOSHIBA for regular use. If you're looking to do video editing, audio production, etc. you could get a Mac for some of the programs offered exclusively to Mac. Just know it's not necessary and there's really no reason to be paying that much extra for something you could do on a Windows computer with a less renowned program.
