What are your thoughts when you hear rappers say, "CAUSE YOU KNOW I DONT WRITE DOWN MY RHYMES"?

I don't...I stopped when I was 15...Started cause I just wanted to see if I could do it...Then it just became second nature to keep my rhymes in my head....The thing is, it's not like someone who doesn't write is literally just free styling erthing...I go through the same creative process, just not on paper...

So you telling me that you remember word for word on all your rhymes? or you write in your mind, record it, review it and then go from there?

Most of the time I think they should write down there rhymes...

Jay Z - 5 Course meal

Lil Wayne - Microwave dinner

T.I. - Microwave dinner

2 Chainz - MRE (Meals Ready Eat)

Yeah, I write it all in my head and memorize em...But of course after I lay somethin down I go back over it...

I think its dumb and lazy as fuck. Respect your craft and treat it like a professional. I'm a big Jay fan, but I always found that shit hella lazy.

I actually think Big was the first one to get recognized for "mind writing". It works for some artists and others, it clearly doesn't. Sometimes I do it, sometimes I don't. It's really not that big of a deal, imo.

It's not that difficult either, seeing as how it's just memorization. But some of these niggas really need to put their shit on paper. It's crazy that some rappers will sacrifice quality just to say they didn't write it down.

And if Tity Boi really can't count bars, that's a travesty. That speaks volumes on how seriously he takes his craft.

The thing with Wayne.. He raps good, depending on who he is doing the song with... he'll give a b.s. artist a freestyle verse, but when he jumped on Hollywood divorce with Outkast, that nigga realllly went in the lab with his verse.. he actually stayed on topic

I dont believe T.I. when he says that he doesnt write.. dude has a nice pen game like Ross and ti cant freestyle for shyt.. them hits he make have to be written at some point

I think Tip went back to physically writing on his Paper Trail album, hence the album's name. And it really showed too. His lyricism increased dramatically on that joint.

It's lazy and it's a stupid gimmick.

"She gotta big booty so I call er big booty" sounds like you don't write raps. "Real GS move in silence like lasagna" sounds like you don't write raps.

Even if I mind write something, I usually end up putting it in on paper or my phone anyway. And then I'll go over the shit countless times until I can recite it at will. By the time I'm recording I've went over my material so many times, I don't even read off anything. It let's me be more natural.

And I hate being in the booth stuck on some dumb shit that I should've had ironed out. That shit is unprofessional and stu time costs too much for that.

HAHAHAH AYE , that real G's move in silence was a clever line.. had niggaz really say "lasagne" and trying to see if the g was silent.. but that "big booty" line from 2chainz was TRASH!

My thought is that their lyrics probably arent that good but maybe i'm prejudiced... Its different what T.I. and Jay do, I mean it could take hours to memorize a verse with out writing but then the flow will be that much more natural

Jay Z and Biggie could pull it off because they were/are actually good. Wayne and 2 Chainz aren't that nice to be not writing their rhymes. They need to write it down so their bars can sound more structured. You can always tell Wayne was freestyling, he'd giggle in between each word. But when he wrote down his music he doesn't giggle.

Jay-Z did not start that. Rappers have been doing that forever. Wale even does it. Biggie was the first one to use that as marketing.

People don't understand it. They do write - just in their heads. They just don't use pen & paper, get it? Alot of rappers have done that. That's not really a skill that's something that you can practice, which all of them did.

Jay-Z advises rappers to write rhymes down. He actually admitted to losing countless verses because of his "I don't write approach"

I can imagine how difficult story telling tracks like "Meet the parents" were for Jay-Z without writing.
