To those who didn't bother listening, what he means is that the idea of being black or African American exists solely in the United States. As someone who has traveled abroad, he's realized that the concept of race and nationality differs drastically from country to country, to the point where he doesn't feel constrained to the American standard of racial identity.

Nothing really to see here but a man who has experienced life beyond the boundaries of his Southern upbringing.

I used to have a different opinion on this but I'm with him on this.

His lineage might not be from Africa. Hell, many of ours might not be from Africa and a lot of us are probably indigenous to this land of America.

I believe some of American blacks lineage is from Africa but definitely not all...and likely most of us are from here. We have been programmed to "accept" that we are all from Africa.

Personally, I believe the Brits and other Europeans just invaded and took over the land and it's people (forced them into bondage) with better weapons....and is likely why "Americans" are so antsy about "illegal immigrants" and "muslims" taking over....because THEY took over before.
