True Blood really needs to work on their finales.

I didn't care about any of the side stories (they all fizzled mid-way through the season), and only barely cared about the core Sookie/Bill/Eric/Russel storyline. But, lets just say I did for a second...

I have to disagree with you on nearly every point here. I actually thought the finale was pretty good given the season itself was so up and down.
This show still hasn't learned to successfully bring things full-circle. It's one thing to give us all a cliff-hanger to take us into the next season, but it's another thing to use the final episodes to start new storylines altogether. The endings are always the beginning of the next season. And it's fine to have some of that. But I felt like too much got wasted here. Lafayette's V freak-outs, the HotShot children, Andy's vamp-blood temptation, Hoyt's mom getting a gun - they're all new stories that have just recently started and didn't wind up leading to anything conclusive. We didn't even get to see the end of the Arlene/Holly witch-deal. The pacing's off. Aside from the Bill and Sookie break up (which marked the third or fourth time that they'd broken up this season), nothing else really felt "finale-worthy."
Season finales aren't all about bringing things full circle, at least not everything. Some things are wrapped up, some things are maintained, and others are introduced. Sure, some shows wrap up a season by tying all the threads and starting anew next season. However, that's not some kinda standard that all TV shows should follow. I mean I don't think you even got the significance of most of what you listed. Lafayette's V freak outs were addressed. They aren't simply V freak-outs. They may be signs of this power that people keep saying he has. Jesus even implied that Lafayette may need to be trained as a wtich. So, now we actually have some purpose to that god awful subplot between the two of them. Jason has now been charged with taking care of the people of HotShot. Andy's vamp-blood temptation isn't anything too serious to begin with. Hoyt's mom getting a gun is clearly the natural progression of the plot that's being built with her. In other words, everything you named connects with something that's been building throughout the season, and every one of those things opens the door for expansion next season. That's what you'd expect in a season finale. Plotlines don't have to be wrapped up. They just have to be presented in a way that elicits interest for the next season. Some things were treated with some finality though. It seems that Tara may be gone for a while. Also, Bill and Sookie may be done. Sure they broke up a few times now, but this is different. The mysteries behind Bill and his intentions have finally been revealed and Sookie renounced him in every possible way which is something we've never seen her do.

When Russell ripped a man's spine out on national TV, we all expected a war. A war with vamps and human and wolves. Instead, the wolves never came back, some back-alley walls got graffitied with "Kill All Vampires" and Nan Flanagan just kept on making her nightly news political debate appearances. Things just never clicked back into place after Russell became an "on the lam" grieving mess. he promised to eat all our children! This was a King with designs to wipe out the human race!

Yeah those things definitely fizzled, but you can't blame the season finale for that. Those are problems with the way the whole storyline was executed.

I liked watching Talbot go down the garbage disposal, but I was a little confused by Sookie's psycho laugh?

I wondered about that too. She was taking a little too much pleasure in someone else's misery.

WTF @ that Godric shit? I liked him when he was sort of "Jesus-lite," and not a full-on embodiment of love and forgiveness. Godric worked because he'd out-lived this world and out-lived temperamental feelings of anger. In fact, he'd out-lived caring about much of anything. He was wise, not warm and cuddly.

I didn't see it so much as Godric trying to be warm and cuddly. To me, it seemed that he found the answers that he was looking for in death and he was trying to impart some of that to Eric.

Jason, as a character, is completely lost now.

I don't really see how you come to this conclusion. I can't say I particularly like this new path with him, but it's definitely something that has potential to be expanded.

Wow! I didn’t think everyone would hate the finale so much, I thought it was awesome! They did a good job developing the characters. I also like that they took a different direction, by not resolving much of anything…yet. Cliffhangers are annoying, but that builds the anticipation for S4.

The worst part of the finale is what they did with Jason. Crystal is a really annoying character, which led to a really annoying storyline for Jason. I don’t like him having to be responsible for those hillbillies. Also his lil’ obsession over the football player on V.

The Jessica and Hoyt story was really nice. You just know something is going to happen when the camera focused in on that doll, laying on the floor in their home. Hoyt’s mom with that gun is scary! lol

Sookie throwing Talbot in the disposal all while enjoying it… was awesome! haha

Sam and Tommy cliffhanger is intriguing. Great acting from those two btw

I thought it was great! I'm really excited for S4. witches... :)

2. Sam crazy you go after your brother because he stole money WITH A GUN?

3. I hope nobody was thinking Eric being stuck in the cement was going to be a cliffhanger

4. Wasnt that the same voodoo doll in Hoyt/Jessica house that was in Lafayettes?

5. the bad guy (forgot his name) being burried was kinda anti climatic

6. what the fuck was that matrix knockoff sht between Eric and the Queen

So Bill can levitate now? I thought he said he didn't even have that ability because he wasn't that old back in season 1

Why didn't Russell or Eric burst into flames like Godric?

When Eric called in talking about I'm going to need your help and your truck I though he was actually going to call in somebody important... and it just turned out to be Alcide's useless ass. booo.

I hope Crystal ass turns up dead not only did she drag Jason into her bullshit but then she put him in charge of her bullshit while being responsible for his truck getting stolen. WTF how many times does this chick have to shit on you? And whats the point of even being a werepanther if its only shown once on the show and not doing shit?

Russell was actually bound in silver and then cemented and in bad shape to add. Why did bill think he was just going to slap some handcuffs on eric and throw him in and he was going to stay? He channeling Tara?

Overall this finale was anti climatic and wack and it does not make me look forward to season 4.

@ the bold

my theory that Godric had basically prepared himself to burn initially with the FOTS and then atop the hotel. He basically fasted, possibly to limit the amount of self healing that he might have done and make the process quicker. Conversely, Russell had recently fed at the museum (dead guard) as well as on Sookie.

Russell swore to fight the true death. Assuming vamps store blood internally and that blood is used to heal, Russell would have gone through his own stores of blood trying to heal as he burned, basically buying time. He was out there for a good bit even after Eric was brought inside. It was enough time for Eric to be fed and heal.

Russell should have been ash by the time Sookie got out to him. I think that it's a matter of the ends justifying the means. If need be, it could be explained. Regardless I don't think it was a show/plot killer. Besides, him chained and conscious gave us that nifty little Talbot down the drain scene.

Bill chased Sookie's ass in the sun forever at the end of season 1 without drinking her blood.

Yet Godric, a much older and stronger vamp, burst into flames at the slightest onset of dawn.

True Blood need to get they shit together. Their vampire hierarchy makes no sense.

i was really expecting eric to beat the shit out of bill once sookie revoked her invitation from bill and he went flying out her doorway.

Eric mentioned to Pam that destroying Bill and Sookie's relationship was worse than killing him, and he's correct.

Russell is older than Godric. The only reason why Russell didn't burst into flames like Godric because he drank Sookie's blood.

Yeah, if people remember Godric had stopped eating and feeding on humans. So him bursting into flames isnt that far fetched. Russell still had a little time because for one he went outside after Eric and two the spot where Sookie threw him had some shade.
