- One of the more curious inclusions in Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s file is a Newsday clipping from Dec. 28, 1999, detailing the New York City nightclub shooting that resulted in Sean “Puffy” Combs and his then-girlfriend, Jennifer Lopez, being arrested. Why this incident would be included in Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s FBI file outlining his own criminal activity remains a mystery. Nothing in the file indicates any connection between the two stars and Jones or the Wu-Tang Clan.

- ODB’s robbery at gunpoint was, it seems, one of several incidents involving rappers being “robbed at gunpoint at various locations, including home invasions,” according to the FBI file. Those committing the crimes were allegedly “former industry insiders who had banded together,” and police interviewed a source who said that he or she sold stolen jewelry in exchange for cash to an associate of the robbers. An undercover police officer then met with the buyer allegedly connected to the rap robbery crime ring and sold him or her “jewelry represented as stolen” on three occasions in exchange for cash. Despite this development, the U.S. Attorney’s Office declined to prosecute the matter, citing a “lack of investigative merit,” and closed the case.

- On Jan. 30, 1999, the FBI’s request that Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s criminal record be released to them was granted by then-New York Police Department Commissioner Howard Safir. Robert “Ol’ Dirty Bastard” Jones was arrested a total of nine times between April 1, 1987, and Jan. 15, 1999, for crimes ranging from petty larceny to attempted first-degree murder. The most curious charges against ODB stemmed from an arrest on Nov. 12, 1997, when he was charged both with contempt and nonsupport of a child, and his arrest on Jan. 15, 1999, when he was charged with attempted murder in the first/second degree, criminal use of a firearm, and … unlawful wearing of a body vest. ((the first person arrested for this infraction under a new California law).

- Ol’ Dirty Bastard (ODB) was imprisoned for not respecting the terms of his probation. Meanwhile, his band Wu Tan Clan was trying to do some recording for a new album called the W. They managed to record ODB’s voice via the telephones that prisoners use to talk to visitors, and include it as part of the new album.

ODB’s voice contributed to the song “Conditioner,” which also featured Snoop Dog. Shortly before the W was released, ODB was being transported between a rehab center and court and made an escape. He used his temporary freedom to attend the record release party. He dressed in an orange jacket with a large hood that obscured his identity.

He wasn’t recognized by the party goers until he was introduced. Some police officers were outside, so ODB performed quickly and then left to avoid being seen and captured. Six days later, ODB decided to sing some autographs at a McDonalds in North Philadelphia.

The autographs caused a lot of fuss and noise, and confused and uncertain of what was happening the manager called the police. ODB initially thought the police were just more fans, but then they drew their guns. ODB was recaptured, even though he tried to flee, and taken back to prison.

- His stage name was derived from a childhood nickname given by RZA, the relevance of which was articulated by Method Man's statement that there was "no father to his style"

- In February 1998, Jones witnessed a car accident from the window of his Brooklyn recording studio. He and a friend ran to the accident scene and organized about a dozen onlookers who assisted in lifting the 1996 Ford Mustang—rescuing a 4-year-old girl from the wreckage. She was taken to a hospital with first and second degree burns. Using a false name, Jones visited the girl in the hospital frequently until he was spotted by members of the media.

The evening following the traffic accident, Jones rushed on-stage unexpectedly as Shawn Colvin took the stage to give her acceptance speech for Song of the Year at the 1998 Grammy Awards, and announced that he had recently purchased expensive clothes in anticipation of winning the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album that he lost to Puff Daddy. As Colvin took the stage to a round of applause, he asked of the audience, "Please calm down, the music and everything. It's nice that I went and bought me an outfit today that costed a lot of money, you know what I mean? 'Cause I figured that Wu-Tang was gonna win. I don't know how you all see it, but when it comes to the children, Wu-Tang is for the children. We teach the children. You know what I mean? Puffy is good, but Wu-Tang is the best, Okay? I want you all to know that this is ODB, and I love you all. Peace!" This incident was widely covered in the mainstream media.

- In 1999, Jones was paid $30,000 to appear on Insane Clown Posse's album The Amazing Jeckel Brothers. Completing his track in two days, his recording consisted of him "rambling about bitches". Insane Clown Posse re-recorded the track and re-edited Jones' vocals in order to form four rhymes out of his rambling, giving the song the title "Bitches"

- The official cause of death was a drug overdose; an autopsy found a lethal mixture of cocaine and the prescription drug tramadol. The overdose was ruled accidental and witnesses say that Jones complained of chest pain on the day he died

- Following a 1999 arrest for possession of crack cocaine, he reportedly asked the police to "make the rocks disappear" because it would hurt his standing as a role model.

- During one of his many court appearances, he called a female prosecutor a "sperm donor."

- In July 1998, only days after being shot in a push-in robbery at a cousin's house in Brooklyn, he was arrested for shoplifting a pair of $50 shoes from a Foot Locker store in Virginia Beach, Virginia, although he was carrying close to $500 at the time. He was issued bench warrants by the Virginia Beach Sheriffs Department to stand trial after he failed to appear in court numerous times.

- Ol Dirty Bastard and LL Cool J were supposed to work together. Then, when they were in the studio, ODB pissed on one of L's platinum plaques (he was drunk, surprise, surprise) and LL threw him out.

- About the Fantasy Remix: This was one of the first times Carey utilized Hip-Hop elements, previously she was better known for her ballads. She told The Sun April 10, 2008: "It gets so annoying when people make out I have gone all Hip-Hop just to get in on a trend. I sang with Ol Dirty Bastard, may he rest in peace, back in 1996 for the remixed version of 'Fantasy.' I love him and I miss him. Working with him was a highlight for me because it was such a random union. But for younger kids on the street, that's the version of Fantasy they know - the line 'Me and Mariah.'"

- He got namedropped at the 2012 White House Correspondents Dinner

- ODB's legal troubles were so complicated, he hired O.J. Simpson lawyer Robert Shapiro to represent him

- Known to his mother as Rusty, Jones started rapping with two of his cousins, Robert Diggs and Gary Grice, as a trio called Force of the Imperial Master. After Diggs and Grice each had false starts with solo careers, the three became founding members of the groundbreaking Staten Island hip-hop posse Wu-Tang Clan

I actually had "Ason Unique" that album was tough. It got caught in the cd changer in my car. This cat that owns a record stored dubbed it for me. Good album

- one of the tracks from nigga please used a drum beat from dirty banging a girl from behind while her head was hitting a drum

- He'd take girls with boyfriends into his hotel rooms and introduce the boyfriend to RZA and then go fuck his girlfriend

- after DA gave him his sentence he said some shit like "you need more dick in you life", he was also sayin "do i make you horny?" during court

- he was arrested in Germany for lounging naked on his hotel room balcony

- Sometimes Old Dirty Bastard's act gets a little old and, well, a little dirty. The just-sprung-from-jail rapper performed with the Hip-Hop group the Roots at Irving Plaza Thursday night and everything was beautiful until the last 10 minutes - prime time for the well-respected, Philly-based live hip-hop band. "It was great" a source* said. "But after they sang Old Dirty Bastard's hit, "Oh Baby, I like it Raw," he refused to get off the stage."*

This being a live rap-type performance, a small melee occurred between ODB and the Roots' frontman Black Thought. The two squared off before shoving and pushing each other. Eventually, the crowd booed long enough for ODB to shuffle off stage and storm to the back of the arena, where he growled, flailed his arms and broke beer bottles. Stuff like that.

- ODB took a camera crew, his kids, and his babies' mother to get their food stamps in a limousine. His defense when asked about welfare reformation? "You owe me 40 acres and a mule anyway!"

- about his MTV interview with Pras, Canibus, and Mya: ODB says he's no longer "afraid of the government stuff": ODB joins Canibus, Mya, and Pras on the same TRL special as the previous video. While Canibus responds to callers' questions with previously memorized answers, Big Baby Jesus keeps it real. So real that he pops out his fake tooth to discuss how he's not afraid of the government anymore. He does acknowledge that Biggie and Pac were killed by the people in the White House, though.
