Source: Browns eye DE Garrett as possible No. 1

As the 0-12 Cleveland Browns get closer to clinching the No. 1 overall draft pick, there is a real chance that the team will not use its top selection on a quarterback.

The Browns have what one source close to the situation described as an "astronomical grade" on Texas A&M defensive end Myles Garrett, a blue-chip prospect who could dramatically upgrade Cleveland's defense. The Browns are enamored with Garrett, according to the source.

Taking Garrett could upgrade the defense but also would likely deny the Browns the chance to take the top-rated quarterback in the draft. But Cleveland is doing its due diligence in scouting quarterbacks. Browns scout Lake Dawson, who once starred at Notre Dame, has spent an inordinate amount of time in South Bend scouting Fighting Irish quarterback DeShone Kizer, according to a school source. Many expect Kizer, a junior, to announce he will turn pro as soon as this week.

The Browns could also look to address the quarterback position through a trade, as some believe they will make a run at New England Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo after the season. The Browns and Patriots have been trade partners twice this season.

Even if the Browns go with Garrett with their No. 1 selection, Cleveland still has an extra first-round draft pick, compliments of the Philadelphia Eagles, to pursue the quarterback it wants.

The Browns lead the San Francisco 49ers (1-11) in the race to the first overall pick.

Cleveland will find a way to fuck up the draft...team loses mad games every year n finds ways to to screw themselves...feel bad for brown fans...they deserve better...loyal fanbase

Giants vs. Cowboys....Wonder who will step up for JPP...the way I see it is not going to have to be a defensive player...can't be..Noone besides vernon on the defense can come close to doing what JPP does. So the OFFENSE is going to have to pick up the slack...is the only way we getting to the playoffs..we will start giving up more points per game therefore will need to score more...still can't believe Justin Pugh reinjured himself tryinta come back for that Cleveland game

Sources: 2017 cap expected to jump $10 million

The NFL plans to inform teams this week about the projected salary cap for the 2017 season, which is expected to be somewhere between $163 million and $165 million, league sources told ESPN.

This season's salary cap is $155.27 million, so the league is preparing for another $10 million jump in the cap, although the precise figures will not be known until shortly before the league year begins in March.

NFL owners are scheduled to meet this week in Dallas. At that meeting, the league's management council presents the first 2017 salary-cap projections to teams before they are finalized next year.

The first figures presented typically come in lower than the actual cap, which helps keep teams' expectations in line.
