Like I said at the start of the thread... is it one over the other for each side?

alot of people from the eastcoast hate southern hip hop.Shit RZA called southern hip hop coon music but then you got southern hip hop artist who think eastcoast rap is tired and think they music is boring or wack.I think overall eastcoast is way better than southern hip hop but south got some good artist but alot of them in the mainstream rely on the beats too much

You can hardly name 10 rappers in the game today who blend both dope beats and lyrics perfectly... its always one over the other

I like East Coast rap... which is more insightful but most of the time their production is lacking...

In this day and age and as a huge music fan, the drums do a lot for my eardrums... cause the roots are traced back to Africa

A dope beat should have rhythm and melody... and even make you appreciate the lyrics more (You saw Hustle & Flow... the way The South cook their beats?)

I appreciate live instrumentation as well. On the East coast Q-Tip, ?uestlove, The RZA... are those who do it for me because they play live instruments...

I have to admit most Down South beats are infectious... I know the feeling of bumping that shit in your whip

To answer your original question rip.dilla, i think it was only natural for it to evolve that way. seeing how many socially conscious movements originated in the north ie: 5% gods and earths, its only evident that lyricism/wordplay would play a pivotal role in alot of east coast rap songs. and on the flip side of the same coin, seeing how various musical artforms originated in the south ie: jazz. blues, funk, gospel its also only evident that beats/production would play a major role in a majority of southern hip hop. also not saying that there's anything wrong with either or

its like thats all the south really care about. i said this before, niggas might as well bump instrumentals in they whip. wat do the raps matter?? on the other hand cats keep sayin eastcoasts beats is a problem when we got ill beats too, in all flavors. it aint all about the club and the whips. its suppose to be balance. thats why shit wack now, everything sound the same. it aint rocket science.

The man supposedly seen as King Of NY dropped an album (BP3) full of atrocious beats IMO... where does this leave you?

The only music on the East Coast that I'm feeling the production is from mostly indie/underground cats...
