Sonic Coming to Smash Bros.

Anyone surprised?

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has announced that Sonic will be a playable character in the new 3DS and Wii U Smash Bros.

The announcement came during today's Nintendo Direct, along with a new trailer, which we'll have for you soon. You can see screens and more info on Sonic (and all the other announced characters) on IGN's Super Smash Bros. Wiki.

This brings the total number of announced Smash Bros characters to 17.

Ike was one of my 4 mains in Brawl, but its time to move on to other Fire Emblem characters. I'd rather see Chrom.

As long as they have a Fire Emblem character with a counter im good. Ike and Marth were my mains and Marth is my main for Melee. That counter makes for great strategics.

I'm surprised they aren't timing the announcements a little better. Olimar got announced when Pikmin 3 was released and Toon Link was announced when Wind Waker HD dropped, so I didn't think Sonic would be announced until Lost World dropped and Peach until Super Mario 3D World came out. Hopefully this means they have a bunch of characters to get through or, that the game will be out sooner than later...like Spring 2014.

I'm expecting a Pokemon Trainer announcement for the X/Y release next week. Zelda and/or Ganon for A Link Between Worlds next month. Diddy and/or Dixie Kong for Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze in February, etc...
