We had a problem with this in Phoenix right after the housing market crash. Can't find any articles from back then but a more recent one makes it seem like it's a "growing" problem but the shit never really left.

Fucked up thing about it is that in AZ if a squatter moves in and lives there for a couple of years, the house, land, or building is theirs. Anyone that owns property out here has to be diligent about keeping squatters out otherwise the shit ain't theirs anymore.
