Good thread (probably won't get much attention)

Who really has answers? Maybe we can go with the same reason Little Brother's video didn't get played on BET. "The audience probably won't be interested"

They dont want rappers making uplifting songs. The only reason they alllowed Nas to put out I can is because the kids on the hook. That message went over heads too.

Actually, what they said was "the video was too intelligent for their target fanbase".

I remember that, now that's a goddamn shame that that shit could actually be publicly issued by the network. Makes me think about that banned episode of the Boondocks where the corporate bet execs were scheming on how to take every intelligent thing about the network and flip it into something so ignorant that it would LITERALLY turn the black populous into retards...

Back on topic, styles P released I'm Black as a single from his album on...wait for it... INTERSCOPE.....you actually thought jimmy iovine was gonna let that song catch fire? Or give it any type of promo? A pro black song? Hell I'm stilled AMAZED that Nas was able to drop Untitled in its final form as he did without being pushed back into oblivion...

That song was not the first up lifting black song ever made so I dont know why it didn't blow up, but I doubt that song was blacklisted because of its message.

The Industry want niggaz to continue to be ignorant and make Hood Albums.Anytime a nigga makes a positive album or song, it's gonna be ignored by our own kind and the white industry.as long as we are making shuckin and jiving songs, positive songs dont have a place in the rap game anymore.thats why niggaz gotta keep making good songs again, make your own videos. do shit yourself.start your own record labels, distribution companies, manufacturing companies stop letting white folks decide what you like to see and hear

We know it's not the first pro black song to be made. That's not the point. And yes he was blacklisted. He confirmed that he was, simply because of the message. They said, we don't want that as a single. They cut the video and didn't feed it to the radio to get played. They took the song off his album when it was released. The sad part is, the song was only played once. And that was during Black History month.
