That may be true but why do they arbitrarily try some 16 year olds as adults and not others? I agree with sboogie, if a 16 year old can, in any circumstances, be tried as an adult then they should also have full adult privileges.

The sole justification for prison should be rehabilitation/crime prevention, not punishment, if for no other reason than the fact that free will is so obviously an illusion. Our behavior is determined by genetic and environmental factors, nobody 'chooses' to kill, steal, rape etc. The death penalty should be abolished and I don't think life sentences should be mandatory either.

In the future, maybe neurosurgery can 'correct' the aggressive and anti-social impulses that we have and there will be no need for prison at all.

you used the word "rule", when in reality judges and prosecutors have discretion...

which gets tested cuz they see hundreds of these shits a month....at some point it becomes routine

Yeah, until you take someone's life. He probably would've been charged as a minor for any other crime, but there ain't no coming back from murder. He knew what he was doing therefore he shouldn't ever get out.

The justice system is biased / discriminatory. All men are not created equal nor do they get treated equal. It's not about what's fair but what works best for the majority. I mean there is very little change in the mentality of a 17 year old and an 18 year old but lines have to be drawn even though the system hopes back and forth when it's convenient.
