Oh yeah and if you havent guessed....niggas responding to threadstarters discredting Rick Ross and defending Ross with "I dont care if hes fake he make great music" and "Why you care about that niggas personal life" sparked this thread, but its not just Ross that is getting away with a lot of shit that he probably wouldnt have back in the day...its a whole lotta niggas!

Ok I understand niggas defending rappers they like, but I disagree that it should only be about the music. I know I wont change anyone's opinion, niggas who agree with me will continue to do so but those that disagree will disagree, but i gotta say Hip Hop is four elements first off so its not only music, but the main thing about Hip Hop shit is that niggas respect "realness" and have always respected realness. Hip hop came out and shit got popular because it was "real" music from an "urban" point of view. America ate that shit up. But as Disco loops got old and Run DMC replaced theatrical clothes with leather jackets ...Hip hop got even more popular....then shit got extra real with NWA and America just went nutz...

The Female rapper Boss came out sold pretty good...then was exposed for being a fraud who never did anything gangsta...never heard from that bitch again!! First thing niggas attack in a battle is your appearance! Second thing.. if you talking tough ...is if youre "really bout that shit" If the crowd feels youre real you win...if not u lose em.

I hear niggas say all the time on this site..." how you know if a nigga real or not"..."why you care about another mans personal life." Its not that at all, its about a feeling you get that just rubs you the wrong way. In real life, you come into contact w/ niggas who just seem fake...and you dont want to be around niggas...If I get that same feeling from niggas on wax I just cant listen to them.

Oh yeah and " Real" dont mean "Gangsta." Real means speaking from the heart and having some part of yourself shine through the rap character you present to the masses so you are believeable.

If on wax they talking about gangsta shit, they better have done it in they past. why talk on shit you are just a voyeur to?

I honestly could care less about what Ross did before he became a rapper, and it shouldn't matter but there are fans that take that stuff into account in their enjoyment of a rappers music.

Yo someone of your opinion is who ive been lookin for to come and shed some light on that shit. Yo have you never cared if a nigga was spittin something credible? And what about all this talk about "real" in Hip Hop? If you dont care and most listeners dont anymore, why do all these rappers keep trying to talk about "real"?

I look at it like this, when I am listening to music I automatically suspend all belief and assume everything said is fiction. Like I do when I watch movies or television shows. It's entertainment at the end of the day and if we worry about who is keeping it real, it will take the enjoyment out of it.

Well I'll take the bait.....

I'm currently 27 yrs old and have been a heavy listener of hiphop since I was 12-13 yrs old. I've always been a fan of the artistic side of hiphop. From Big, PAC, nas, jay, outkast, goodie mobb etc. they all had a special way of expressing their thoughts on wax. To me it's like a movie. Like all movies they are loosely based on reality which I knew from the beginning. If you believe everything any rapper says then ur the fool. Do you nasir's esco persona, or that Jay was some scarface drug dealer? These niggas are entertainers, always have been. That's why ice t can play a cop on tv and ice cube can star in family comedies. As a fan we will never know the personal lives of these rappers, all we get is the picture they paint and what they're peers say abt them. Because of that the only true objective measure we as the fans can go by is the quality of the music. Everything else is gossip and I'll leave that for the bitches.

Jamaicia and StillDreamin that is actually a good explanation and really what i was lookin for. I get the movie argument but its not about "knowing the personal lives of rappers" or "gossiping like bitches." This is why I said Real means speaking from the heart and having some part of yourself shine through the rap character you present to the masses so you are believeable. I respect the art and exaggeration of niggas persona! I actually like it but all the artistic niggas u cited have a baseness of realness and speaking from the heart that most hip hop listenin niggas deem credible. PAC was a true artist and niggas respected his passion! Biggie was in the lifestyle niggas know that Jay was in the lifestyle...Outkast did some dirt but never claimed to be Cocaine Cowboys. Goodie Mob creative niggas who most niggas relate too. Jay dealt drugs and niggas who were respected like "Calvin Klein" talkin down on Jay only confirmed the basis of his realness. Rick Ross, Boss (the female rapper), Lil Troy (from Houston) who niggas outed as a snitch, really dont seem to be on the same caliber as the artists you mentioned.

Credibility means absolutely nothing to you? Why do rap niggas and gangsta niggas who wanna be rap niggas always try to attack artist credibility if it doesnt matter to the majority of listeners anymore? Can anybody get up there now and rhyme about busting guns as long as theyre backed by Zaythoven or some other "hot" beat maker.

WOW! The comment you said about "Real dont mean Gangsta" is something I've said for the longest time!!!! Your right. Right now in order to rap, you have to have people believe you sold drugs, your gangsta, and your rich. Without that you could have had your lyrics ghostwritten by Jesus Christ himself, and still won't get any listens or respect. Don't get me wrong, if thats what you know then rap about it. But rappers like Lupe, J. Cole, and Common get their amazing lyrical content over looked. They're spotlight is replaced with these rappers who bring virtually no lyrical content to the table. One thing I can't figure out for the life of me is when these "real" rappers get exposed.... why do they still sell?

My sentiments exactly homie...When did credibility stop counting for hip hop fans? Lupe, andCommon are overlooked in sales, but yet people who really check for lyrics know whats up with Lupe...even Jay cosigned dude... First song on Lupes first album said "the people asking for somethin real real real....something they can feel feel feel!" I wanna believe him bro...but i dont know. Niggas seem to be just cosigning wack niggas acting like gangstas.

I definitely agree with the whole fiction aspect. I do not get caught up with what these guys are saying. Its entertainment. Not to be taken so serious. With that being said, I feel that authenticity of what they are rapping about is important. I cant understand rapping about dope if you have never done that thing. Or banging if your not affiliated. i do feel though that todays artists are way too scrutinized, so many damn peoples opinions on the internet. Most I assume who have never been to jail, commit a crime, slang a nick of nuthin, or kept it real with anything. But yet they come up in arms talking about well so and so got robbed so he aint real, or so and so did this so he aint real. Thats why people like myself are damn, whatever, who cares, its just about the music. Because there are so many people on the extreme on the other side. Plus these rappers are regular people too, sucker one day and will cut you the next. Gangster 24-7 are most likely not rappin.

I cant even hate on this response my dude...well stated opinion. I felt like the scrutiny thing and niggas houndin niggas all the time since the advent of the internet had something to do with it ..Glad to see that you still feel like authenticity means something out this bitch. I hope other niggas who are always talking about "its just the music" are as discerning as you cause if not ....niggas will continue to make shit music cause everybody is entertained by fake gangstas. I really do feel if we support niggas being themselves who make good music it will encourage other niggas to break the boundaries of this cocaine rap! I think niggas is scared to be themselves nowadays and it hurts the music cause the gangsta shit aint new no more...we need something new and realer than the 24/7 gangsta...

when too many rappers and producers got exposed, then fans stopped believing the hype...and focused more on the actual music.

with everybody getting on youtube, these rappers cant sell or rely on the image anymore.

Exactly cause there is so much bullshit nowadays that people just focus on what is force fed to them, knowone wants to look for music anymore, they go with the safe choices because 9/10 the new mixtape by the dude you never heard about gonna be trash, and same ol bullshit not even repackaged, but but just sent back. Being real is to risky nowadays. the record companies aint checkin for you unless u marketable and that means you have the image to fit there mold, a black male from the ghetto, who may just be a criminal and delinquent! His attention sends the message to the exploited demographic that, "Hey this is how we can get all the attention that weve always lacked, act like this nigga right here, be a nigga!" Its vicious cyce

Well of real recognize real, how come cats like Jay Z, Jadakiss, Bun B, Rakim, Raekwon, Camron, etc...all cosign for Ross. I think your blind hatred for Ross is clouding your judgement.

I c/s this.

Its only when their favorite rapper starts getting sh*tted on they feel the need to say its only about the music.

Face it your favorite rapper is a fraud!-And buying supporting that, you are contributing to hip-hops bullsh*t.
