Well yeah, those skits fit that album perfectly.. but even without those 5-6 skits, CD would be 17 songs deep, if I'm not mistaken.. not saying it isn't a classic, but rappers should still focus on quality and not quantity imo..

Since we talking about Kanye, MBDTF had 11 songs on it, not including Who Will Survive in America and All of the Lights (Interlude).. and that's a pretty damn good album..

I like a lot of songs, but not if it's full of wack shit, or 85% of the album is on the mixtape. Once you get on and have an album like cole and krit, your mixtapes should only be shit that didn't make the album and you don't plan on using on later albums.

That and Capital Punishment had skits.

What did you think of CP?

Most rappers don't have the talent and or ear to create a good to great 18 or so song album. Its rare to have a short album even being made so maybe its a record label thing forcing that many songs but I wouldn't know for sure.

I love Capital Punishment (and other lengthy albums such as Fishscale).. but I think I'll be being a lil too optimistic to think most rappers can pull off dropping a lengthy album that's worth purchasing..

Meh, I'm easily convinced by your stance.

That's that No Limit mentality, though. Back in the days dudes used to be amped when they saw a 24 or 28 track song list. Problem then is the same as it is now: 4 of those are certified replay-heavy bangers and the other 20+ are forgettable.

The mixtape age has produced a lot of great songs, but it's killing the artists. KRIT, J. Cole, etc. have given whole classic albums and singles away for free just to get label attention, and then get signed to be told, "Ya know, your singles aren't hitting their mark."

record labels only pay for 12. everything after supposedly comes outta the rapper's pocket. that's what I've heard anyway

I see what your saying i just feel like the majority of albums even if they dope could be cut to 12 dope songs. Granted when it comes to the holy scriptures of rozay you can't stop the prophets wale and meek and the god rozay from delivering the scriptures that were given to them by devine power. Questioning why a meek album had so many throwaway tracks is like questioning God himself.

idgaf how many songs on the album, as long as it is quality music and that the length doesn't affect the overall quality of the album. like Take Care was long and boring. Stankonia is long and dope. so it all depends on the overall project

Wack rappers should limit their albums to 10-12 songs, good artists that can pull off a good/great album can do as they feel as far as album length.

my thing is again the majority of rappers cant make a dope 17 track album. And even if they can i would rather have it spaced out over time. Im sure some of nas's shit on it was written was writen during the illmatic period but he saved it for his follow up. I would rather have two 12 track albums over 2 years than lets say 18 dope tracks one 1 album and the follow up be only 4 dope tracks the rest be garbage.
