Yea they should. The govt hungry as shit right now and i rather them do that rather than raise my taxes.

No, I think they should be exempt.

I say that because whether you suscribe to their beliefs or not, MOST of these organizations are helping their communities in a positive way. Whether it's counseling, a food pantry, clothes, etc...

If they say or do anything political then yes. If they stick to religion then no.

Churches will tell people to vote for Anti-Gay legislation, but maintain tax free status.

They will invite Obama or whatever Senator to get more blacks to come vote but maintain tax free status.

THE FUCK? Separation from church and state is just that a SEPARATION. Involving your organization in the political process makes you a political group not religious group. THey should have to pay into the government they are trying to influence.

Kick ass post.

But fuck yeah they should be taxed. Especially them scientologist weirdos.

I think they should be taxed.

there was a churches built in los Angeles on Crenshaw that costed 10 million to build with little to no assistance to the poor community it surrounds.

There it is. Very insightful and accurate. The second you stray away from actual religious uplifting and get into pushing your own agenda - religious, political or otherwise - you are no longer functioning solely as a religious institution and need to be taxed.

Are they?

I believe this is a myth.

The compromise is that their charitable expenses be exempt. Otherwise fuck them.

I'd be okay with this.

if the government started taxing churches then the politicians would lose some political gain from the pastors. Pastors and churches have a huge influence on the direction of the vote especially if someone is running for mayor

hell yeah

If this is a factual infogram, by paying taxes they would do effectively accomplish one of the main goals of modern religion by feeding and housing the poor.

I say tax them on income after all expenses, and not at the corporate tax rate.

Im surprised a lot of you didnt know already that religious orginizations are tax exempt. If you ever worked retail you would know they don't even pay tax on anything retail.
