Serious question: Where was Jay when this kinda shyt was dropping?

It's like '93, '94, bout the year

That Big and Mack dropped and "Illmatic" rocked

Outta every rag drop, and the West had it locked

Everybody doing them, I'm still stretching on the block

Like "Damn, I'mma be a failure"

Surrounded by thugs, drugs, and drug paraphenalia

Possibly laying the foundation for Reasonable Doubt and forming Roc-A-Fella with Dame and Biggs.

He didn't partake in the greatest era of hip hop, he did not compete! He can and should not be compared nor take place alongside a Nas or a Pac, and thats real!

It's funny how Jay wasn't a part of the era but eventually outsold and outlasted every single one of these rappers.

He did like he should have, how the fuck are you not gonna peep game from niggaz that already paved the way before you? You better soak some of that shyt up...And last I checked Snoop and Nas still very much active, Nas still making better music than this nigga too, and he came after them so he better still be going...Shyt last I check Em still goin and he sold more records than Jay, so I guess Em should be credit and more highly praised than Jay...

LOL at this logic, you act as Jay came in the game years after Nas. Matter of fact, Jay had his debut in rap way before Snoop and Nas. LOL at Nas making better music, yeah, that people don't give a fuck about. As for Eminem, his catalog ain't nowhere near Jays.

lmaooo@ your argument...its even worse that he came in the game before Nas and Snoop and COULDN'T SURVIVE, THE QUALITY IN HIS MUSIC WAS NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR HIM TO MAKE IT IN THAT ERA, you just solidifying my whole point, lol...

Nas's last album shyt on Jay's last album, and its not even close.

Using yall logic, about Jay outselling and outlasting well Em is doing that, he done already sold more than that nigga...And i don't think that Jay has outsold Pac yet, not sure about that one, but don't think he has...

using em as an example is just stupid. he's a white rapper in a white majority country, of course he'll sell a lot. he has a unfair advantage over every other single mc in history.

but jay had the last laugh in the end. he might not have been releasing music when nas, mobb, snoop and pac was, but he sure did stay on top longer than every single one of them losers

Damn, b...those artists all released GREAT, timeless classic Hip Hop albums..why they gotta be losers?

Oh because men and women lie, numbers don't. The kool-aid you drinking is spiked...

That check you receiving must be pretty large.

lmaoo, you must mean on top commercially? Cuz Nas been putting out better music than that nigga and has a way better catalogue than Jay and it ain't even close...

America's demographics is changing, not sure how much of an advantage whites are having, specially in the growing numbers of the latinos, which was reflective and a huge factor on Obama getting a second term...so check them numbers....and Em still selling more than Jay and murdered him on the same track too...rofl...what makes Jay better than Em?

How is Nas the best rapper when he couldn't even sell out half of MSG in his own city.

Em is better than Jay he sold more records than him.

Where you logic fails is sure Em has sales like Jay, but Em doesn't have the critical acclaim albums like Jay-z.

Nas has critical acclaim but no mass impact.

Eminem has mass impact but not the critical acclaim

Jay has both.

nas aint got a way better catalogue than jay. thats being extreme. its close. jay has good albums in blueprint 1, black album, american gangster.

nas does have subpar albums too. lets not forget hip hop is dead, streets disciple. them shits was trash. gods son wasnt even all that.

Nah, Em has MORE SALES THAN JAY, google that stanley...and Marshall Mathers Lp is a classic, so your argument is refuted.

I stand incorrected, Em is better than Jay based on that criteria.

See easy.

Name one credible hiphop source/critic who has ever rated MMLP as a classic. That album has flaws towards the back end of the project, it deserved the 4 out 5 mics it got. Shit ain't no classic.

em aint got no god damn classic albums

and even if someone say mmlp is a classic, so fucken what?

jay got at least 3 certified classics.

em aint even got a stronger catalogue than nelly
