Most of the young cats in NY dont get shine because its hard as hell. For a nigga to get love from his city he has to be BETTER than Jay-z, Nas, Pun znd Big COMBINED. And we all know thats not gonna happen. Also the basis of gettin resppect from ur block or hood or what ever is u gonna have to battle EVERYBODY. NY hasnt lost the essence of Hip Hop because all the greats had to do the same shit.... But the difference is that they didnt get stuck in battle rapper mode so they were accepted outside of NY.... Also the NY sound was more prevelant in the mainstream back then so they didnt have to be other than themself to get love. NOWA DAYS thats not how it is so its a struggle.... East Coast got 2 artist that has eitha a single or album that went platinum. That's 2 more artist than the West Coast have. Lil B does have a buzz going on right now comming from the West Coast but that's hit. The average rap fan can not name one Nipsey Hussle or Jay Rock song. Not one but they know Cory Gunz from the Wayne single. They know who Wale is from Roc Nation. And they know Diggy Simmons.

Here's the bottom line, you can have unity and all that other bullshit. However, until your cause expands outside of your area, you are not considered a hip hop movement. These young west coast rappers are still considered nobodies by the average consumers standards. Lastly, Dre released a number of songs related to Detox. The only one that was a real hit, feat. eminem. Yes he has put in work and helped propel eminem to stardom. However, that doesn't somehow alter reality. In reality, em is 3x the star dre is at this current moment. It also would be far-fetched to assume, since eminem is the only rapper still selling damn near 4x platinum, he may just be the reason for the success of dre only successful song (off detox)..

movement = a place in time when you have a bunch of rappers from a region coming up together at the same time, with a certain sound which goes on to catch the essence of that time period

i.e the south in the mid/late 00's

the westcoast in the 90's....

eastcoast in the late 90's and early 00's

one coast always rules, but to do that u have to have a next generation of rappers, not just one or two pop star gimmciks who die out in 6 months
