5th Letter- What are your thoughts on today's hip hop?
blackrain- I don't think the music nearly as bad as some people my age, I'm 31, and older make it out to be. I remember PLENTY of wack shit that got airplay and was popular growing up just like today. I think the main difference now is that the wack rappers have an instant outlet with their music so yes there's more of it we're exposed to, but it also makes it easier to avoid too. I think hip-hop is in a good place musically. I've always been a fan of melodies and many of my favorite songs in hip-hop are melody driven so I love the fact that rappers now are more comfortable using them in songs than in the past as a whole. I like that the most popular/taken seriously rappers today are getting on just being themselves instead of some caricature of what they think a rapper is supposed to be. As much as I love the hip-hop culture I grew up on, a lot of it was so stale and predictable it's no wonder many artists from back then had little to no staying power. It was just clone after clone of rappers saying and doing the same shit. I remember a period in the early to mid 2000's where damn near every interview with a rapper contained these 2 phrases "I'm not a rapper" and "I listen to Coltrane" like they were all reading the same damn script.
The one thing I absolutely HATE about today's hip-hop though is the lifting up of the drug fiend as some sort of symbol of how cool you are. I don't get the hip-hop that prides itself on being as high as possible on lean and pills all day long. A segment of these new niggas have literally made liquid heroin the cool thing to do. Ain't shit cool about being so high you can't function. I'm interested to see the long term effects of this generation's love affair with being so high all the damn time...and yes I know as someone who is very open about smoking weed how hypocritical this can seem but as stereotypical as this may sound we all know weed ain't that damn serious. But these pills, they going to zap the brains of half a generation and they won't know what hit 'em.

blackrain- Found the IC in Jan 03 on a random search one day I was doing for song lyrics. I signed up but I didn't start really posting for a year or so. I've seen alot on the IC being here off and on over that time. I think only a few posters have been here that long. I think Stew is one of them.
5th Letter- What are your earliest memories of the IC?
blackrain- Alot of 50 and G Unit threads. Shit was so bad they had their own sub forum. If niggas think posters make a crazy amount of threads about Drake it's nothing compared to the G Unit threads. Them niggas was super stans to the 100th power
5th Letter- What are some of the craziest things you've seen since you've been on the IC?
blackrain- Some of the exposures. When they first started in Donkey it was a poster named Ecks and they were called Ecksposures. This nigga would find anything on people. One time he called someone's mom and let them know a poster had sold their daughter heroin I'm exchange for pussy and posted the audio. That til this day is the wildest one I've seen. Another was a poster who pretended to be a porn star til his girl found the IC and put him on blast. Actually led to the first Cali exposure too by default because it was through him her pics got leaked and the infamous pic of her getting splashed on the chest appeared on the IC. This was before anyone knew she did webcam shit and got exposed again. The exposures now are stupid because it's just a bunch of niggas taking pride in running off women and bragging about nudes. Niggas always got nudes from IC chicks and smashed but before they kept it to themselves. They weren't worried about bringing it back to threads instantly to brag for goats from niggas on here they'll never meet. The gaylias shit was crazy too. Niggas going out of their way to post gay gifs in threads. Sometimes the shit niggas on the IC find funny is disturbing as fuck
5th Letter- How did you become a mod?
blackrain- Bird. Hummingbird made me the MOD of Waiting To Exhale when I used to post my material on the IC. I was a MOD I there for a minute then one day I logged on and I was G&S mod too. For a long ass time nobody even realized I was a mod. I'd bet there's still alot of posters who don't know because I tend to be very low-key with shit. I don't ban unless it's truly ban worthy. I don't delete threads unless they're duplicate and I don't edit other posters posts because that's just stupid. I tend to let people hang themselves and just go from there.
5th Letter- What are some of the biggest challenges that comes with being a mod?
blackrain- There's nothing really hard about being a mod. Just remain objective and don't let the power go to your head and it's a smooth ride. There's things that are annoying from time to time but I tend to have fun with those things. Like the long standing do the mods get paid rumors. What exactly can we see when it comes to posters accounts and shit like that. That type of paranoia from posters is funny to me
5th Letter- So you're saying you never got the urge to read a posters PM's?
blackrain- Not really. I'm not a nosy person by nature which is why I'm often on the outside of alot of the politics that go on with the more popular posters on the IC. I simply don't care about the shit. As long as they not doing something to bring negative attention to the site I don't care. Now some of the shit niggas have argued to post about...yeah that's made me wonder about their pms but I'd never actually go look. Like I said I let people hang themselves.

blackrain- Favorite....Kai, Ms Southern, Jay when he does post..Stew...BossExcellence, EmmHolla, Ms. Jones when she decides to pop up in threads...those are probably my favorites and I'm sure I'm forgetting a couple I'll probably remember later. Least favorite...Zzombie..never seen someone so dedicated to being ignorant. XxCivixx...he's entertaining to troll but I've never seen a poster so caught up in their own ego. It's funny but it's sad if he's truly that way off the IC. Those the only 2 I actually read their post and think "They legit might be this dumb and not playing a role for reactions"

blackrain- I'd bring back a section called The Upper Room. Niggas used to have glowing names and access to a room only those posters could see. It wasn't a mod only room. You just had to be given access to it. Sion would've loved it because there was even a private ppm in there lol. Other than that I wouldn't change anything. The IC like anything else goes through its ups and downs. I've seen better quality posters, like when we would piss off MsSouthern and turn The Powder Room into the Boom Boom Room threads which was the original ADHD thread, but I also know with time comes better posters and better shit to talk about
